Officials Want To Promote Hidden Gems In This Increasingly Popular Beach Resort

Officials in Bali’s Lovina Beach Resort are discussing ways in which they can bring more tourists into the area.

The coastal resort town, already considered a hidden gem by many, is seeking to attract more international visitors. Leaders want to showcase more of the secret destination that lies in and around Lovina in North Bali. 

The Head of the Buleleng Tourism Office, Dody Summa Oktiva Askara, said that as a destination, Lovina Bech has become the most famous area of North Bali.

The beach town was first put on the tourism map by Anak Agung Pandji Tisna, known as the last King of Buleleng. Best loved for notable works of literature, Tisna was revered for his manuscripts such as “Sukreni, Balinese Girl,” “Ni Rawit, Ceti Seller of People,” as well as “I Private: A Year in Bedahulu.”

An incredibly interesting man, Tisna played a pivotal role in the establishment of tourism in Bali. Considered to be a pioneer in developing tourism in strategic locations across the island, it was his part in putting Lovina on the map that has placed him firmly in the hearts of many Balinese people.

In fact, he is known as the Father of Balinese Tourism and was awarded a posthumous honor by the provincial government in 2003 for his world in bringing the tourism industry to life. 

Fun fact: it was Tisna who gave Lovina its name. In 1953 he established a holiday home in the village then known as Desa Tukad Cebol.

Now known as Kaliasem Village, he hosted many international and local guests at his vacation residence.

Tisna named his house Lovina, an abbreviation of Love-Indonesia. Later he built more guest houses along the western coastline of Buleleng Regency, and the area subsequently was referred to as Lovina.

Now leaders want to revive and regenerate that early love of Lovina shared by Tisna and those first tourists to Bali.

Askara told reporters, “We want to offer something different to tourists. So apart from mass attractions, we also want special interest tours in Lovina. So tourists are increasingly interested.“

He added, “So far, Lovina has been known for watching dolphins in the wild. But we see that there is greater potential than Lovina, apart from just being an attraction. We are exploring that potential.”

Askara is not wrong. There is so much to explore in North Bali, from lakes to waterfalls, undisturbed jungles, rural villages, and incredible coastlines; it’s easy to see why leaders want to showcase their homelands.

Key locations like Lovina are just a 2-hour drive from Bali Airport, making it a super convenient destination for a calm and relaxed beachside holiday. 

Last year the Indonesian Minster for Tourism and Creative Economies, Sandiaga Uno, visited Buleleng Regency and said that he, too, wanted to see more promotion of the north of the island.

Minster Uno said that as the island shifts towards promoting tourism more aligned with ‘serenity, sustainability and spirituality’ areas like North Bali showcase some of the best of what the island has to offer. 

The south of the island is ideal for anyone who wants to dive into the hype and the hustle of the trending resorts like Canggu and Uluwatu, North Bali, and Lovina especially, which is perfect for a truly laid-back getaway.

There are so many natural wonders to explore in North Bali too. Just inland from Lovina Beach lies the jungle paradise of Munduk.
