The island of Bali is just 5,780 square kilometers in size and one of over 17,000 islands that make up the archipelago nation of Indonesia.

Small as it may be, Bali attracts the most amount of tourists of any destination in Indonesia. So far this year, over 9 million tourists have visited Bali, 70% of whom have all headed to one very special place.

Bali is divided into nine regencies, Badung, Denpasar, Tabanan, Gianyar, Bangli, Karangasem, Buleleng, Jembrana, and Klungkung.

Denpasar Regency is the provincial capital, Gianyar is home to the island’s arts and culture capital Ubud, and Klungkung Regency is the administrative authority in charge of the east of main island Bali as well as Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.

Badung Regency is easily the most famous part of Bali. Home to major tourist resorts like Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu, and Nusa Dua, it’s not hard to see why this part of the island is so popular with visitors.

@elliemcnelly My favourite places to visit in Uluwatu! Such a beautiful place with the most unreal view points I’ve ever seen ✨💛 Top restaurants we visited were: – Ayu’s Food From The Heart 🥯 – Warung Ganesh 88 🍗 – Cafe La Paison 🌯 – Kats Corner 🍜 #balitravel #balitravelguide #baliitinerary #uluwatubali #uluwatubeach #uluwatuthingstodo #traveltiktok #travelguide #top5 #travelling #travelbucketlist #southeastasia ♬ Walking On a Dream – Empire of the Sun

This week the Head of the Badung Regency Tourism Office, I Nyoman Rudiarta, shared new travel data taken from May 2023. The statistics show that 70% of all tourists who visited Bali in May this year visited Badung Regency.

Rudiarta told reporters that the numbers are set to soar once again as Bali is at the height of the peak vacation season.

He explained, “This year, the number of tourists to Bali has reached 1.4 million by May. What’s more, adding in June, July, and August, I think there will continue to increase.”

He continued, “In the past, after the Covid-19 pandemic or in 2020, our visits increased by 2 digits. The increase in the number of visits has also increased again in 2021, so that this year, until May, it has reached 1.4 million.”

Pleased that Badung Regency is edging ever closer to its pre-pandemic norm, Rudiarta concluded, “But now we will improve tourism or emphasize quality tourism.

How can tourism actors continue to provide good service so that they or tourists get good service and have good behavior.”

The number of tourists, both domestic and international, visiting Bali since May has increased significantly, boosting overall travel data higher once again.

This week Bali Airport was able to share travel data from their operations. The airport has served over 9.7 million travelers so far this year, 5,196,806 of whom were traveling on international routes.

So Rudiarta and his teams can certainly look forward to reviewing travel data for June, July, and eventually, August, too, as tourists destination across Badung Regency are booming with visitors right now.

Once upon a time, themes popular place for tourists in all of Bali was Kuta Beach.

As the area undergoes a series of redevelopments and renovations, it is undeniable that the most popular area of Bali right now is Canggu.

The surf town has undergone a major tourism boom over the last seven years or so and shows no signs of slowing down.

Now home to the world’s biggest beach club, Canggu is in increasingly high demand by domestic and international tourists alike.

There is plenty to keep tourists entertained in Canggu, from kicking back at beach clubs like Atlas Beach Fest and Finns Beach Club to dancing like there’s no tomorrow at Old Man’s or Sandbar; Canggu has become synonymous with party vibes.

But as tourist interest grows, so does business innovation.

There is an incredible emerging fine dining food scene in Canggu, and it’s certainly worth checking out restaurants like Billy Ho, Uni Restaurant, or for something a bit more laid back, Mostly by Zest.

If the high vibes of Canggu feel like they might be too intense, be sure to check out Bali’s fastest up-and-coming tourist resort, also in Badung Regency.

Uluwatu, which sits right at the very southern tip of the island, is a must-visit for beach lovers looking for a bit of fun in the sun.

Of course, Bali’s forever favorite destinations of Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak have so much to offer tourists, and as the crowds look towards the new training destinations, these old faithfuls have started a resurgence of their own!

9 million tourists on this little Island is ridiculous. This is my first time to Bali and I am appalled by the trash and the traffic and so many terrible things on this island. I do not understand why anybody would spend their hard-earned travel dollars and time on this tiny Island. Do yourself a favor watch the Youtube video

"Bali is a scam" before you come here. I would never have come here if I would have known.

I have been here for 10 days and I still have 12 days to go before I go home. I'm counting the days to get off this God forbidden Rock. It's just my opinion but I don't think Bali is worth coming to don't be fooled by all the Facebook and Instagram pictures. It's just a fake illusion as is most social media.

Look at those beaches, wall to wall people, who in their right mind would want to go there? Might as well go to Jakarta or Spore.

Hey shorty, maybe you've never been here but Bali is wall to wall people. This island was not meant to hold this many tourists. They have such a serious problem with trash and everything else it is just disgusting.

Please everyone watch the Youtube video "Bali is a scam"before you come here

@Firechef, Perhaps the 'fault' here is selection of pics to go with the article. It happens regularly with the Sun. Perhaps the editorial staff need a kick up the bum.
