West Bali Is Set To Become Island’s Next Biggest Tourism Hub

Share The Article

West Bali is one of the Island of the Gods’ most stunning destinations.

Home to rolling jungle hills, pristine coastal ecosystems, and the heavenly West Bali National Park, as a travel destination, the area has so much to offer travelers of every style.

For years West Bali has been touted as the next big tourism destination in Bali, set to receive huge amounts of investment to ensure that travelers from all over the world have access to all the resources and facilities they need to have the trip of a lifetime.

Now it looks like that investment is starting to come into effect. Officials have announced that there will be huge redevelopment at Gilimanuk Harbor.

This will not only make it easier for tourists to connect with East Java but also bring further tourism development to the often-overlooked Jembrana Regency.

It is not only Giliamanuk Harbor that will undergo a series of renovations; construction of the Giliamanuk-Denpasar Toll Road is well underway, making it easier for tourists to travel more efficiently around the island, and progress is being made on the establishment of the Paramount Pictures theme park in West Bali too.

The Regent of Jembrana, I Nengah Tamba, told reporters that there are over 7 million tourists, domestic and international, who use Giliamanuk Harbor every year.

He noted that this entry point to Bali needs to have increased capacity in order to best serve tourists.

Regent Tamba assured reporters that the modernization of Gilimanuk Harbor and surrounding facilities would be conducted with great attention to detail, ensuring that the whole area is upgraded as a tourism facility.

Plans show that the upgrades for the new and improved Gilimanuk Harbor will be mostly completed by the end of 2026, with final finesses added in 2027.

There are hopes that the investment in Gilimanuk will also help strengthen tourism ties to Banyuwangi in neighboring East Java.

With all this investment about to be put to work, what is there for tourists to enjoy in West Bali now? An unbelievable amount!

West Bali spans across two of the island’s nine regencies, Buleleng and Jembrana. While Badung Regency is home to tourist resorts like Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua, and Uluwatu, just a few hours west lies a whole other side of Bali to explore.

As it stands, West Bali has all the tourism infrastructure tourists could ask for; stunning international hotels, an amazing array of restaurants and cafes, and natural wonders that are often free from the hustling, bustling crowds of the south.

West Bali is home to one of Instagram’s favorite travel content spots, Sumberkima Hill Resort. This ultra-popular private villa resort is one of the most popular places to stay in Bali if you take even a quick glimpse at social media.

Offering a beautiful range of private villas, ranging from budget-friendly to totally lavish, Sumberkima Hill resort sits at the gateway to West Bali.

The hotel offers tourists the chance to connect with Bali’s iconic natural landscapes and really take a moment to appreciate the beauty in the world.

Buleleng Regency, which spans much of the north and west of the island, offers some of the best tourism experiences in all of Bali.

Destinations like Lovina Beach, Munduk, and West Bali National Park are simply world-class. Tourists have access to resort-style getaways located within a stone’s throw of vast ocean wonders and exciting jungle adventures.

Last year Indonesia’s Minster for Tourism and Creative Economies, Sandiaga Uno, visited West Bali and shared his love and affection for the area.

He has committed to ensuring that sustainable tourism development is supported in the area, so those who are planning their next visit to Bali should really check out all that this part of the island has to offer

Port facility improvement and the western toll road (if it's ever completed) will do little to increase tourism to the North. What's needed is fast direct travel from the South.
