Construction of a new hospital in Bali’s Sanur is now officially underway. This week, Bali’s Governor Wayan Koster presided over the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics Bali in the Sanur Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism.

Sanur is Bali’s original beach resort, and over the last sixty years, it has undergone transformation after transformation.
The beloved coastal resort has recently entered a new era as Indonesia’s leading medical tourism destination following the opening of the new Bali International Hospital.
To support the redevelopment, Sanur has also welcomed all kinds of upgrades and new businesses, including the ICON Bali Mall.
It is not only the Bali International Hospital that is available for medical tourists and private Indonesian patients in Sanur, but a whole suite of medical clinics offering everything from aesthetic treatments to fertility care. Speaking to the media at the groundbreaking ceremony for the JEC Eye Hospital, Governor Koster highlighted the continued preference of many Indonesian citizens for medical treatment abroad.
The vision for Sanur as a Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism was two-fold. The first was to attract international medical tourists who would otherwise travel to destinations like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok in the region. The second was to help better serve Indonesian nationals who were also traveling to those destinations for treatments.
Governor Koster shared his view that medical care in Bali is competitive with other world-leading medical tourism destinations. He explained, “I don’t think our healthcare services are inferior to those offered overseas. But why are they world-class? I believe it’s simply a matter of our commitment and our approach to building high-quality, international-class healthcare.”
Speaking of the new JEC Eye Hospital, he shared, “This will not only serve to improve world-class healthcare but will also boost the number of visits by both international and domestic tourists to Bali.”
The JEC Eye Hospital will be providing comprehensive ocular care. Services will include cataract, lens and refractive surgery, retina services, contactless services, treatments for glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus services, as well as neuro-opthalmology services.
The JEC Eye Hospital has already lined up an exceptional staff of world-class Indonesian eye doctors, many of whom are Balinese, including Prof. Dr. Ni Ketut Niti Susila, SpM(K), who specialises in Glaucoma, Cornea, Contact Lens, Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Ocular Infection & Immunology.

“JEC also always puts its commitment to give the best to the patients with the latest technologies in terms of eye health service to remain the leading eye hospital in Indonesia.”

While it will be more than a year until the JEC Eye Hospital opens its doors in Sanur, the Bali International Hospital is ready and open, already providing comprehensive medical care to both medical tourists and Indonesian citizens.
The hospital specializes in Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Stem Cell, Aesthetic Surgery, Fertility Treatments, Eye Specialists, and Geriatrics. The hospital is impressing patients across the board, though the facility’s maternity and paediatric care is receiving the most praise.

The Bali International Hospital provides both elective and emergency care for international patients. The hospital has its own private ambulance service and emergency hotline that is staffed 24/7, available with fluent English speakers. By far the most popular services for international medical tourists attending Bali International Hospital are the screening packages, which start at IDR 3,400,000 and can be booked online, prior to arrival in Indonesia.

While this would be a great medical tourism for some to seek medical treatment in Bali, I would still prefer to get my medical treatment in Jakarta where I have received a great medical service and attention in the past rather than in the States. Surprisingly but true...

For many tourists is a main question, who will pay it, because foreign insurances {pay much get nothing} are mostly very stingy. - There are countries where Medicare is free, in our unfortunately not.

@WAYAN BO, what Medicare? Which countries are you talking about? BPJS has saved marginalized and other middle income people in Indonesia.
