Data Reveals Travelers From These Countries Love Bali More Than Anyone Else

As Bali prepares to enter the peak holiday season, officers from the Central Statistics Agency are looking back at travel data for the year so far.

A new review of data for 2023 so far shows that tourism to the island is edging ever closer to pre-pandemic levels, and the travelers who love Bali the most have been revealed.

Speaking from Denpasar on Monday, 5th June, Associate Expert Statistical, I Made Agus Adnyana, gave an analysis of travel trends in Bali at the moment.

Looking over arrivals data up until the end of April 2023, he revealed that the cumulative number of tourist visits is almost the same as the same period in 2019, pre-pandemic.

He said that “until the end of April 2023, there were 1,437,740 foreign tourists visiting, while in 2019, in the same period, there were 1,819,644, so the difference was only 381,924 visits.”

This is great news both for tourist businesses and tourists themselves. As the travel industry continued to boom in Bali, there were more and more opportunities for memorable experiences on the island, as well as great travel deals.

Adnyana noted that the two main reasons why tourism had picked up in the last two months are because of the increase in flight availability and the changing conditions in the home counties of many travelers.

The leading international arrivals in Bali in April 2023 were from Australia, India, China, England, and the United States of America, in that order.

Adnyana explained, “Australian visitors [totaled] 102,737, an increase compared to last month by 14.43 percent, then India with 35,854 visits, this also increased by 27.29 percent compared to last month, as well as China, Britain, America, which each increased 95.79 percent.”

From March to April 2023, Bali experienced the biggest increase in arrivals in the year to date. Figures for April to May are expected to show another larger hike in arrivals, though data is still being collated by the Central Statistics Agency.

Why does Bali continue to be such a popular destination for travelers from Australia, the UK, and the USA?

A concerted effort on behalf of the travel and tourism industry has been made to attract tourists from India and China to Bali, but what is it about the island that is so popular with holidaymakers from Australia, the UK, and the USA specifically?

Bali has long been the winter-sun destination of choice for Australian travelers. During the long school holidays, tens of thousands of families make the annual journey from the land down under to the Island of the Gods, and it’s not hard to see why.

Bali is one of the most family-friendly holiday destinations anywhere in the world. With hundreds of beachside resorts catering to every kind of family dynamic imaginable, Bali helps keep everyone happy.

Flight availability is also another key reason why Australian travelers love Bali. Flights between Australia’s biggest transportation hubs and Bali operate multiple times a day, seven days a week.

Whether planning a last-minute getaway, or a months-in-the-making vacation of dreams, Bali is super accessible for Australians. Plus, the visa on arrival and now the e-visa on arrival keep things simple for travelers

Bali and Australia have a long-standing relationship, from the pioneer backpackers and surfers of the 1970s to the support shared in the wake of the Bali Bombings and throughout the pandemic, as well as the thousands of business owners and retirees who have chosen to invest their resources in building a new life on the island, there is an enduring bond between Bali and Australia.

For many holidaymakers, visiting Bali is a chance to catch up with family and even hang out with old local friends year after year.

As for travelers from Europe and the USA, it’s got to be said that media and social media play a huge role in encouraging tourists to visit.

Southeast Asia, and Bali in particular, is often the starting point for young travelers on their first backpacking adventures, and for years, Bali has been a safe training ground for emerging explorers to find their feet in the world.

Travelers from the USA heading to Bali will often cite the comparative freedoms and relaxed nature of life on the island compared to the hustle and bustle of the working world in North America.

The lure of tropical beaches, dense jungles, and nourishing food is almost always noted by travelers from the USA as a reason to visit Bali.

As travel data for May is still being analyzed, it is clear that Bali remains on track to hit and probably surpass tourism targets in 2023.

Governor Koster's reforms are a bit over the top. I agree, deport those who misbehave and act like idiots in Bali, but don't stereotype all foreigners and those observing the law or driving a motorcycle slowly and observing laws. If idiots are getting drunk and behaving poorly, or using scooters or motorbikes to be idiots, deport them. Everyone else gets punished for the behaviour of bogans or idiots, and I for one will not visit there with such uptight & dictatorial attitudes. It is not friendly anymore.

In a few years, Bali will become a concrete jungle inhabited by digital nomads and remote workers.

Not everyone's favorite anymore. No mountains, no driving, nothing done about rampant and open criminals and you'll be blamed for all the islands problems...

Better off going elsewhere.

I've been to Bali 3 times and was already planning my 4th, I really wanted to do the mountain hike... I and man, many thousands like me will not be returning until Koster and his crazy laws that harm Bali are removed.

Dense jungles? Sorry, not in Bali, they've cut all the beautiful old giant trees down to make big tables for the restaurants.
