Immigration Crack Down On Tourists Overstays Visas Leads To Deportations

Bali’s mission to crack down on foreigners breaking the law continues. It is a concerted effort on the part of Indonesia Immigration to ensure that all foreigners in the country are obeying the law, and teams are taking stricter and swifter action against those who are found to be violating the law.

Indonesia Immigration is working to crack down on foreigners, including those on tourist visas, who are breaking the law, with a special focus this month on those who are overstaying their visa.

Indonesia Immigration has confirmed that a total of 12 foreign nationals were deported by the Special Class I Immigration Office of TPI Ngurah Rai via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport between 26th August and 4th September 2026. All twelve were sent back to their countries of origin for committing various immigration violations, ranging from misusing their stay permits to overstaying for more than 60 days.

Indonesian Immigration has confirmed that of the 12 foreign nationals who were deported, four were subject to Immigration Administrative Action (TAK) based on Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration. This is also known as blacklisting.

The four foreign nationals consisted of three Russian citizens who were proven to have misused their residence permits while in Indonesia. A Canadian citizen was deported after serving a criminal sentence in a fraud case. The eight other foreign nationals were deported for overstaying their stay permits by more than 60 days. They were subject to action under Article 78 paragraph (3) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

The group of eight deportees consisted of two British citizens, as well as the remaining six from France, the Netherlands, the United States, Belgium, Belarus, and New Zealand.

Speaking to reporters, the Head of the Ngurah Rai Class I Special Immigration Office, Muhamad Novyandri, explained that the deportation of the 12 foreign nationals was part of immigration law enforcement. The action was also the result of monitoring the presence and activities of foreigners within the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office’s jurisdiction.

He shared, “We carry out immigration patrols routinely to ensure the presence and activities of foreigners, particularly in the Ngurah Rai Immigration area, are in accordance with applicable regulations.”

Novyandri was clear that his office will not tolerate any foreign nationals found guilty of immigration violations. He reiterated that any foreign national found violating these rules will be subject to action in accordance with statutory regulations.

He added, “The deportation of these 12 foreign nationals is proof that we will take action against foreigners who are proven to have committed violations in accordance with statutory provisions.”

Novyandri explained that the high mobility of foreign nationals in Bali is a serious concern for Immigration officials. Monitoring the presence and activities of foreign nationals is ongoing to prevent violations, particularly misuse of stay permits. This is why spot checks and targeted immigration patrols are a regular occurrence across Bali’s top tourist destinations and in neighbourhoods popular with international residents.

While speaking to reporters, Novyandri took the opportunity to call on all tourists and travellers visiting Indonesia to comply with immigration regulations as well as respect local laws, customs, and Balinese culture.

Ngurah Rai Immigration ensures that monitoring and enforcement against foreign nationals who violate regulations will continue as rigorously as ever.

Foreign nationals found to have abused their stay permits, overstayed, or committed other immigration violations will be subject to strict action in accordance with applicable regulations.

Novyandri concluded, “All foreign nationals are required to comply with the provisions of laws and regulations, including provisions regarding residence permits, obligations while in Indonesia, and respect for local cultural values.”
