Leaders in Jembrana Regency are preparing to launch a new fast boat service that will connect tourists to the wonders of West Bali with the adventures of East Java.

The new fast boat service will see tourists transported between Bali and Java in just 15 minutes, opening up a wealth of new travel opportunities.

The Jembrana Regency Government is preparing to invest in a series of speedboats that will serve the Jembrana-Banyuwangi fast boat crossing service.

The new transportation program has been developed by the Regent of Jembrana, Made Kembang Hartawan, as part of an intensive effort to strengthen connectivity, business development and tourism between the two regions.

According to Regent Hartawan, the fast boat service will reduce travel time to just 15 minutes, which is markedly quicker than current ferry crossing times.

Regent Hartawan told reporters “This speed boat will only take 15 minutes to cross to Banyuwangi or vice versa. This will be very efficient both for the public and for tourists.”

There are hopes that the new fast boat service will not only benefit tourists but also local residents across both East Java and West Bali, boosting the opportunity for business growth and inter-island innovation.

Regent Hartawan added “Hopefully this plan can be realized soon. This will also be one of our sources of regional original income (PAD).”

The investment in the fast boats and launch of this new transportation service is part of a long-term plan from the Jembrana Regency Government to accelerate improvements to transportation infrastructure and promote sustainable economic growth within the region.

Gilimanuk Habor is one of the most important transportation and therefore economic hubs in Bali, and leaders are aciculate aware that this underlapped resource needs to be harnessed as Bali continues to boom.

This is not the only new fast boat service that tourists will be able to make the most of in the coming months. Just this week another fast boat service connecting Bali with East Java has been announced, this time originating from central Bali, from Seranagn Island.

Serangan Island falls within the jurisdiction of Denpasar, and the new connection between Serangan and Banyuwangi is also expected to help make it more easy and enjoyable than ever for tourists to explore more of the Indonesian archipelago.

Since borders reopened after the pandemic, there has been a concerted effort to promote East Java and West Bali as a kind of dual destination. With both regions greatly overlooked compared to iconic travel destinations like the central south of Bali, or Lombok, leaders want to see tourists connect with lesser visited areas of the county.

The new fast boat service between Seranagan Habor in Bali and Banyuwangi in East Java is set to launch in June 2025, right in time for the high season.

The Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa recently took a site visit to the Fast Boat Dock at Marina Boom at Banyuwangi Port to check in on preparations for the new service.

He told reporters “Ahead of the Banyuwangi-Denpasar (Bali) fast boat operational process, I want to check the readiness of the infrastructure at Marina Boom. Later the operator will come here again to check the necessary completeness.”

The fast boat service is reported to be able to carry up to 300 passengers per crossing, and details regarding ticket prices, travel times, and schedule will be released in due course.

Across Bali, traffic congestion has been cited as one of the biggest issues facing the tourism sector. Leaders within the central government, provincial government, and private sector have all spoken out about the need to make the most of all available resources to help keep the island moving.

One such untapped solution is the use of more fast boats and water taxi services around the coast of Bali to help alleviate some of the traffic on land.

In addition to the new fast boost services connecting tourists from Bali with Java, new ocean taxi services will be launched by the end of the year connecting tourists directly from Bali Airport to top resorts such as Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Sanur, and Nusa Dua.
