Bali’s Kintamani is an unmissable cultural day trip for tourists. Come rain or shine there is always something magical to discover in Kintamani and as the gateway to Bali’s volcanic highlands, Kintamani is the perfect place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the busy beach resorts and breathe in some fresh mountain air.

Kintamani is gaining in popularity with tourists from all over the world and all over Indonesia. Over the Eid holiday, known in Indonesia as Lebaran, Kintamani welcomed over 20,000 more tourists than usual.
The Head of the Bangli Tourism and Culture Office, Wayan Sugiartha, told reporters “it is clear that there is a positive influence. Tourist visits are increasing.”
He added “ In “Kintamani, besides Penglipuran Village, is one of the icons of tourism in Bangli, but for all of Bali.”
Bali Province is managed as nine regencies, and Bangli Regency is home to some of the island’s best kept tourism gems and emerging hotspots. Penglipuran Village has long been one of the most famous tourism attractions in all of Bali, arguably in all of Indonesia after the community own several high profile awards including being listed on the United Nations World Tourism Organisations list of Best Tourism Villages in the World.
For tourists who want to explore the best of Bali’s cultural and natural wonders all in one day, then Bangli Regency is the place to head. Starting out in the early morning in Kintamani, to watch the sunrise over Mount Batur is easily one of the most magical experiences Bali has to offer.
In fact, many tourists choose to start their magical day trip to Kintamani very early indeed, still under the cover of darkness. The sunrise trek to the summit of Mount Batur remains one of the most popular bucket list activities in Bali with good reason. The hike to the summit is challenging but manageable and well worth the effort.
Once tourists have enjoyed the sunrise and their sense of achievement for having climbed to the summit of an actual volcano before they’ve even had breakfast, the day trip around Kintamani can fully begin.
Kintamani is a series of traditional market villages, and the heart of Kintamani town can be found along Jalan Raya Penelokan.
For coffee lovers, this high street is a serious paradise on earth. Pick any of the incredible coffee shops and roasters along Jalan Raya Penelokan for a hearty and well-earned post-hike breakfast.
What makes the cafes along Jalan Raya Penelokan is that they each offer a unique panoramic view of Mount Batur directly ahead. Kintamani coffee is deemed by many as some of the best coffee in all of Indonesia.
With the high altitude, cool temperatures, and volcanic soils all contributing to the flavor profile, as well as the skill and experience of Balinese farmers, coffee roasters, and baristas, this is the place in Bali to discover more about Indonesia’s most famous exports.
Paperhills, Ritatkala Cafe, and Himalila are all loved by returning tourist to Kintamani for their unrivaled views, incredible coffee, and great service.

From the heady heights of the summit of Mount Batur and the bird’s eye views offered by Jalan Raya Penelokan, tourists can’t help but notice the glistening Lake Batur.
The stunning Caldera Lake is one of the most important freshwater sources in all of Bali and is also home to the picture postcard Pura Ulun Danu Batur Temple.

Over the last few years, an intensive effort has been underway to clean up Lake Batur and improve its water quality.
A light afternoon stroll around Lake Batur gives day-trippers to Kintamani the chance to take in the magnificence of the landscape from a whole new angle.

Before the day is through it is time for some serious relaxation. There is no place better to soak in the magic of Kintamani than at the Toya Bungkah Hot Springs. The natural thermal baths are said to have healing properties and the warm waters are certainly a balm for aching post-hike muscles.
While towels are available to rent, it’s best to bring your own and this is one of many small tourist attractions in Bali that still only accepts cash, remember to bring your rupiah with you!
