Bali’s Uluwatu is one of the most in-demand destinations on the island right now.

As a beach lovers paradise, as interest grows from international and domestic tourists alike, leaders are working to ensure that the destination continues to live up to expectations.

The Badung Regency Government, the local authority responsible for destinations like Uluwatu, Canggu, Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak, has been discussing the master budget for 2024.

As the new year is just around the corner, politicians are working to assign funding in the most impactful way.

The Regent of Badung, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, has outlined how and where local funds will be spent in the next 12 months.

There is a big focus on investing resources into Uluwatu’s Pandawa Beach. As interest in the stunning coastal retreat grows, it is clear that Regency leaders want to promote the beach even further.

Regent Prasta told local councilors, “Support for the arrangement of Pandawa Beach is inseparable from the high number of visits to Badung, especially to Pandawa Beach. This can be seen from the number of tourist visits to Bali reaching 17,9000 per day.”

Regent Prasta is committed to funding a series of major improvements through the Badung Master Budget in 2023.

This will include improvements to the temple at the beach entrance, building a new disaster shelter and Bhishma statue, and lookout stations for tsunami detection.

The Head of the Kutuh Traditional Village, who is in charge of the day-to-day management of Pandawa Beach, confirmed that “there are also arrangements for the river [drainage], drop off the lobby area, main plaza, trader kiosks, parking area, and children’s play area. All of the planning for the arrangements at Pandawa Beach requires a budget of IDR 50 billion.”

News that more upgrades will be coming to Pandawa Beach in 2024 build on newly announced plans to introduce a zoning management system at the tourism hotspot.

The beach will soon be divided into four distinct zones to help guarantee that tourists have the experience they traveled to the beach to enjoy.

The first area of the beach will remain a public access beach for sunbathing, swimming, playing, picnics, and fun in the sun.

The scene zone will be dedicated to entertainment and hospitality businesses like beach clubs, restaurants, and bars.

Beach managers hope that by zoning entertainment facilities into one area, tourists who simply want to hang out on the beach won’t be disturbed by music and live events.

The third zone will be dedicated to eco-tourism activities, everything from snorkeling to stand-up paddle boarding.

Pandawa Beach is already a popular spot for paragliding, an activity that is literally soaring in popularity in Bali right now.

The final zone of Pandawa Beach will be dedicated to private hire, especially for photoshoots and content creation.

This way, beach managers say, all tourists and visitors to the beach will be able to make the most of their time on the coast.

The upgrades and high investment of funds into Pandawa Beach is just one of many new projects by the Badung Regency and provincial government to improve tourism infrastructure in Uluwatu.

As the area undergoes a tourism development boom, leaders are concerned about the rapid growth risks the area experiencing over-tourism, traffic congestion, and waste management issues.

One strategy in the works to reduce traffic congestion into the Bukit from central Bali is to construct a new road into Uluwatu.

A budget of IDR 80 billion has been assigned for the first round of land acquisition required to build a new road into the tourism resort, and work is set to commence in mid-2024.

The new road will also intersect with existing highways that will also be widened during the construction process.

The Badung Regional Secretary recently told reporters that the building will help mitigate traffic congestion in Uluwatu.

I Wayan Adi Arnawa said the new road works will run through the Nirmala-Uluwatu Intersection, through Jalan Uluwatu, and around the GWK Cultural Park.

The last photo shows Uluwatu beach with clearly illegal and ugly developments down the steep cliff face.

A recent google review of Uluwatu beach clears up the situation: "If you want to see how nature is ruined go ahead and check out [Uluwati beach]. A once pristine and mystical place, construction, money-making and trash ruined it. Beware of the taxi mafia here"

So why not start by clearing out all the illegal construction and return to the once original and pristine beauty? Show some dignity and respect and do it!
