Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has just celebrated the launch of two new international flight routes.
Airport authorities and tourism leaders hope that the addition of these two new services will help increase the number of tourists visiting the island and give travellers more options for multi-stop travel adventures.

The two new services operated between China and South Korea, and will be operated by Sichuan Airlines and T’way Air. The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, described the addition of the two new airlines and accompanying routes as a breath of fresh air for Bali tourism. He shared, “We welcome the entry of Sichuan Airlines and T’way Air, which for the first time operate at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. The connection of Chengdu and Cheongju directly opens up new opportunities for tourists from China and South Korea to enjoy Bali easily.”
The new T’way Air Airlines Bali service celebrated its first flight of the Cheongju (CJJ) – Denpasar (DPS) route on Thursday, 25th September, with the safe and successful touchdown of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The route operates on flight number TW157 and will be operated twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays.
The new Sichuan Airlines route will operate between Chengdu and Denpasar, and will operate daily following its inaugural journey on Friday, 26th September. Bali is on a mission to welcome more tourists from both China and South Korea, and the destination is experiencing a surge in popularity among these two travel demographics. Shahab told reporters, “Throughout January-August 2025, the number of tourists from China served by Ngurah Rai Airport reached 393,825 people, or ranked the third most foreign visits to Bali Island.” It remains the case that Bali’s most frequent international arrivals hail from Australia.
Shahab confirmed that with the addition of these two new airlines, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport now serves 42 international routes operated by 47 airlines. The airport management team has also emphasized its commitment to maintaining the quality of service in the midst of increased flight traffic. He concluded, “We ensure that all operational processes run smoothly and coordinate with all parties to provide the best service.”
InJourney Airports, also known as PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, is the state-owned company that operates 37 airports across Indonesia, including I Gusti Ngurah Rai International in Bali.
Speaking to reporters this week, the President Director of InJourney Airports, Mohammad R Pahlevi, explained that InJourney has launched a new campaign called ‘Melayani Sepenuh Hati through its ImpaCX program, to accelerate the improvement of services at 37 airports, including in Bali.
Pahlevi shared, “This program is designed so that the airport can always hear the voice of customers, provide services according to the wishes, needs, and expectations of aircraft passengers and airport service users.” ImpaCX is an extension of the InJourney Airports Movement to Accelerate Performance in Customer Experience program.

The program is set to become the driving force that will push the entire airport sector in Indonesia towards world-class service standards.
The program has been designed to ensure that all InJourney Airports provide a world-class journey experience by maintaining the reliability of facilities and infrastructure, as well as Indonesian hospitality by the airport staff.

The six goals as outlined in the new program will have huge benefits to all Bali tourists traveling through Ngurah Rai Airport, and any of the other 36 airports under the InJourney umbrella in Indonesia, including Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta, Juanda in Surabaya, Sultan Hasanuddin in Makassar, and Kualanamu in Medan.

The first is to ensure that the airport environment is always safe, ensuring that the airport is always clean and comfortable, and ensuring that plane passengers and service users receive clear information. The fourth goal is to create a warm and friendly atmosphere at the airport, ensure the process at the airport is always efficient, and finally ensure all facilities run perfectly.

Good to hear, there's potential for more tourists from China and Korea.
It could also help offset the rampant growth in rooms and beds, particularly in villas.
It could increase road congestion, but the potential numbers suggest it would be minimal.
There's also the reverse market. It opens up more possibilities for those on an Asian tour. For me there's a bonus. My daughter-in-law is Korean and I've other family ties to China near Chengdu

It’s all very well to increase the number of tourists. That’s great. But what about the poor infrastructure that can’t accommodate the current numbers. Roads are often in gridlock, yet nothing seems to be done about this.
