The high season in Bali is officially over. The province will feel notably quieter from now until the Christmas and New Year Holidays, known locally as Nataru. This is great news for tourists seeking low-season room rates and crowd-free visits to top attractions.

Bali feels quieter. While top resorts like Uluwatu and Canggu, as well as top destinations like Ubud, still welcome the ever-present ebb and flow of tourist groups, the island is far less crowded now than it was only a few weeks ago. As September rolls on, the island will feel quieter still as the low season comes into full effect.
From mid-June to the end of August, international school holidays result in a significant influx of arrivals, particularly those on family vacations. These kinds of arrival figures have now dropped off and won’t be seen again until December. Over the Christmas and New Year Holidays alone, Bali often welcomes in excess of one million visitors, comprising both domestic and international tourists.
The island’s top attractions and cultural landmarks are certainly feeling less crowded. Even in August, while the school holidays were still in play, top attractions like Ulun Danu Beratan saw a dramatic drop in visitors. Speaking to reporters, the Main Director of Ulun Danu Beratan shared that the decline in visits has been felt since 23rd August. In the case of Ulun Danu Beratan, visits have been lower than expected all year.
Visitor data from January to July 2025 shows that Ulun Danu Beratan has welcomed 309,284 tourists. This figure for 2025 is lower than the 362,242 tourists who visited during the same period in 2024.
Wayan Musika explained that visits plummeted in August 2025 and that he and his teams want to welcome back more visitors to the temple complex and the surrounding area. He shared, “International tourist arrivals usually reach 1,500 per day, but now there are only around 700. Meanwhile, domestic tourists who usually reach 500 people per day are now down to 250.”
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple sits on the banks of Lake Beratan and is one of the most famous temples in Bali. Located in the Bedugul Highlands, this central region of Bali is massively underexplored, and tourists looking for a culturally rich, naturally abundant, and affordable place to visit in Bali should certainly consider Bedugul. Other attractions in the area include The Blooms Garden, The Bali Botanical Garden, and Handara Gate.
It is not only around Bedugul, where Ulun Danu Beratan can be found, that tourist numbers are in decline and crowd-free travel is almost guaranteed.
The Head of Marketing for the Denpasar Tourism Office, Ni Ketut Trisna Aryani, told reporters that overall visits to the city’s top attractions have been on a decline in the last few weeks, too, even prior to political demonstrations taking place in the provincial capital.
Aryani explained that the Tourism Office of Denpasar will be conducting more promotional campaigns to help tourists better understand what is on offer in terms of travel experiences in Denpasar.
The capital of the province has a huge amount of heritage to explore and modern culture too. The food and coffee scene in Denpasar, as well as the music scene, is thriving.

Aryani shared, “What we will do to achieve the target is online promotion, utilize social media, and collaborate with tourism actors and stakeholders so that they can promote, while we improve the quality of our destinations and provide budgeted events.”
Last week, tourism leaders in Bangli Regency also called on holidaymakers to explore the region and to consider destinations outside of the central south of the island. There are concerns that recent political demonstrations will further negatively impact arrival numbers across the island.

Speaking to reporters, the Head of the Bangli Regency Tourism and Culture Office, Wayan Dirgayusa, told reporters, “Of course, there are concerns. Based on our experience, whenever there’s social unrest, instability, or security issues, it always results in a decline in tourist visits, including in Bangli.”

Adding “Generally, Bangli is still safe. Penglipuran, for example, which is quite far from the demonstration site, is very safe to visit.”
