Tourists planning vacations in Bali this high season should include a visit to the magnificent Gunung Paying Beach on their itinerary.
Located at the very south of the Bukit Peninsula, the cliff-backed Gunung Paying Beach is becoming increasingly popular with tourists, and for good reason.

Local tourism leader Ni Luh Hepi Wiradani told reporters that Gunung Payung Beach is welcoming more tourists year after year, with the shoreline seeing a surge in visitors over weekends and public holidays.
During the recent Eid al-Adha festival, the beachfront saw over 800 visitors in one day. Wiradani shared, “The highest visits were on June 6th and 8th. But they decreased by 50 percent on June 7th due to rainy weather conditions.”
Though for tourists seeking a crowd-free beach experience, sharing the sand with over 800 people may feel unpleasant, Gunung Payung Beach feels calm and quiet most of the time. On average, especially on weekdays, the beach sees only 200 visitors from sunrise to sunset.
Wiradani confirmed that even on busy holiday days, there is seldom any queuing or crowding at Gunung Payung Beach. The free shuttle service from the car park to the beachfront is easy for tourists to use, and the stairway has been reconstructed, giving tourists plenty of options.
She noted ”We still provide two shuttles, but now more tourists choose to walk. Because we have repaired the stairs area when going down to the beach. After the repair, visitors prefer to go up and down the stairs because they like artistic, blending with nature.”
Wiradani also confirmed that the walkway to the beach is well-shaded for tourists and has new safety features to ensure everyone can easily access the beach.
She shared “We use natural tree wood so that it blends with nature. The trees are also shady so they are cool. So people like to walk.”
Gunung Payung Beach is perhaps the most well-known beach in the up-and-coming resort of Kutuh. Kutuh, which is located in the central south of the Bukit Peninsula, is flanked by Ungasan and Nusa Dua. The Bukit Penisula is home to a set of distinct resort areas, including Uluwatu and Jimbaran.
As Uluwatu continues to grow in popularity with holidaymakers and Nusa Dua stands strong as the island’s most luxurious travel destination, areas like Kutuh and Ungasan are starting to welcome more tourists who wish to explore more of the Bukit Peninsula’s offerings.

Gunung Payung Beach has slowly been garnering more attention since 2024. It is one of the most family-friendly beaches on the Bukit Peninsula and is ideal for all kinds of beachgoers.
The beauty of Gunung Payung Beach is that it can be enjoyed for a couple of hours as part of a multi-stop day trip or as a full beach day destination.

Gunung Payung Beach is just a quick 20-minute drive from Bukit Peninsula’s biggest cultural attraction, the GWK Cultural Park, which is a must-visit for all tourists to Bali.
The expansive cultural park is a living museum and home to the largest statue in Indonesia, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue, which stands an impressive 121 metres tall. On a clear day, the GWK statue can be seen from as far away as Canggu.

Gunung Payung Beach is also only a short drive from the southernmost point in Bali. Tourists looking to beach hop along the Bukit Penisula as part of a day trip tour should start at Gunung Payung Beach, hopping over to Pandawa before heading onwards to Melasi Beach and the Southernmost Point of Bali Island. For incredible sunset views beach lovers should head to Nunggalan Beach or Nyang Nynag Beach.
