Bali’s Incredible New Tourist Hospital Will Open In Early 2024

Officials have confirmed that the new Bali International Hospital is on track to open in April 2024. The new state-of-the-art hospital complex is under construction in Sanur. Officials are excited to be able to offer world-class private healthcare and establish more medical tourism on the island.

The Bali International Hospital is one of the biggest construction projects happening on the island right now. Other big developments include the Gilimanuk-Mengewi Highway, which will better connect the center of the island to the far west.

The Bali International Hospital is set to catapult Indonesia into becoming a major player in the medical tourism industry.

The Main Director of Indonesia Health Care Corporation, Mira Dyah Wahyuni, has been speaking to the media about the vision for the hospital and the care it will provide.

The hospital complex in Sanur is being created with two key demographics in mind. These are middle and upper-class Indonesians who are currently going outside the country to seek private medical care and international patients who are seeking more affordable, accessible, and high-quality care than is available to them in their home nations.

Wahyuni has explained that the Bali International Hospital will not provide statuary government healthcare for Indonesian residents.

While Indonesia’s national social security and healthcare system (BPJS Kesehatan) is not as all-encompassing as, say, the UK’s NHS, for those who need it, there is some free healthcare available in Indonesia.

However, the Bali International Hospital is strictly a private hospital and will not be providing government care; this, in theory, should also alleviate pressure from other hospitals in Bali which currently cater to BPJS Kesehatan and private patients.

Wahyuni has said that she wants to see the Bali International Hospital increase medical tourism in Bali, as well as be an indirect influence on the number of international citizens who want to retire or invest in Bali.

For many people looking to retire abroad, access to health and wellness facilities is a key deciding factor.

The Bali International Hospital is set to provide world-class care across the board and be a centralized hub for medical specialties in South East Asia.

Whatsmore, in order to ensure that patients are afforded only the best and most highly qualified care, Bali International Hospital will be recruiting staff from around the world. Typically it is very difficult for foreigners to practice medicine in Indonesia, but new policies are in the pipeline to enable Bali International Hospital in Sanur to recruit staff from around the country and around the world.

The Head of the Bali Province Health Service, I Nyoman Gede Anom, has confirmed that the recruitment progress is already underway as April 2024 isn’t too far away.

Construction of the hospital buildings is set to be finished by the end of 2023, giving hospital teams enough time to get the whole facility running smoothly by April.

Anom told reporters If it is felt that there are not enough or there are no qualified health workers according to the needs, foreign workers can be used.”

He added, “It is possible that in the future, foreigners will come to Bali for treatment if there are already international hospitals with competitive fees.”

The Bali International Hospital will have 250 inpatient beds as well as dedicated specialist faculties. The hospital will specialize in cardiology, neurology, critical illness (ICU), gastroenterology, and orthopedics.

Bali is already the medical tourism destination of choice for thousands of patients. The island is especially popular with medical tourists from Australia and New Zealand who travel to the Island of the Gods for elective dentistry and even cosmetic procedures.

The medical tourism industry is a multi-billion dollar sector, and as Bali looks to evolve into a new era of high-quality and sustainable tourism, the new hospital is certainly a huge step in that direction.

Officials in Bali are also keen to ensure that the Bali International Hospital has a strong focus on integrative wellness, as well as Westernized medical healthcare.

The hospital will be surrounded by a Balinese medicinal garden that will serve as a supportive resource and a place to preserve and promote the traditional healing methodologies of the Balinese culture.

@Wayan Bo,

When do they plan to hire the international staff for administrative and semi clinical posts ?

I am interested to work in the beautiful land of Gods, I have over 14 years of experience in customer relationships and international patient management.

I’m currently based in the beautiful Cayman Islands.

Could you help with the HR contact information, I don’t think their website is fully functional or so. Can’t seem to get through…

Any help will be greatly welcomed 🙏🏽

Madae Lucky.

But Will it be one price for ‘Bule’ and a different price for locals? Even though it will be middle and upper class Indonesians( with money) that will use it . Hmmm I wonder???

Yes, that’s the question. “ Where will qualified staff come from”? There are doctors in every country, India, Pakistan, South Sudan, but sadly their expertise is grossly inadequate. The lack of education is why so many expat doctors from third world countries drive taxis in the west. A coat of paint doesn’t replace the credentials of a cardiac specialist trained in a western medical school.

@Firechef, Gonna have to disagree with you on this one. American doctors are the biggest murderers in the country over there. #3 leading cause of death is medical errors. I'd say best to have doctors from China/Japan/Singapore.

@J West, Very true, let's just hope that these doctors are Americans or American or European educated.
