The government’s implementation of partial lockdown in Bali and Java has not yet shown a significant sign of recovery.

As hospitals run out of isolation rooms, more accommodations are being made for patients in order to avoid at-home isolation, which cannot be monitored by medical staff.

The Head of Bali Health Agency, Dr. Ketut Suarjaya, said that this decision was made to manage the increase in cases.

“Today we add another two hotels for quarantine houses, similar to the Inna Hotel Veteran and Inna Grand Bali Beach, for asymptomatic patients. The hospitals will be only focused on treating the patients with severe symptoms,” Suarjaya said on Friday (22/1).

The Health Agency recently issued a decree requiring all healthcare facilities to provide additional beds within at least 30 percent of its existing capacity.

The decree serves as a precautionary measure in the case that cases surge beyond expectation.

Accordingly, Bali Mandara Public Hospital has prepared 20 additional beds to the existing 200 beds.

Hospitals also plan to add more ICU rooms if necessary.

Suarjaya urges people who have been confirmed positive with COVID-19, yet show no symptoms, to contact the nearest COVID-19 Handling Task Force or hospital to be relocated to an official quarantine house provided by the government.

These measures have been taken to control virus transmission within households as the Task Force finds the spread largely linked to family clusters.
