Bali is a destination that truly offers something for everyone.
While Indonesia may not be the first country that springs to mind when one thinks about automotive excellence, things are about to change.
Tuksedo Studio, based in Ketewel in Gianyar Regency, is bringing vintage automotive design into the 21st Century.
The studio specializes in the production of handmade classic cars, and in addition to designing and manufacturing its own modern classic cars, it is working on re-creations and vintage vehicle restoration.
The studio is currently focusing on cars but, in the near future, will open up a specialist boat unit to bring the principles of modern-vintage design to the maritime world.
Tuksedo Studios was just visited by the Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies, Sandiaga Uno, who gave this enthusiastic seal of approval to the tour of the studios and workshops and the business itself.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Minister Uno said, “The presence of Tuksedo Studios can inspire the creative industry to greater heights and produce more added value that will bring prosperity to the people of Bali and the creative industry in Indonesia.”
He added, “I see that this [studio tour] can be made for tourist destinations such as the boats in Bedugul, lakes in Bali, and also lakes in Indonesia such as Lake Toba. So besides us having a phinisi [sailing ship], we also have unique boats, which can open up more opportunities.”
Minister Uno was shown Tuksedo Studio’s first automobile creation, The First Lady. The creators described it as “the deepest expression of our passion for the design and art of automotive history. We also hold the belief that beauty is universal and your taste is absolute.”
The family-owned mechanic’s workshop is also looking to include electric vehicle models later down the line.
Aside from The First Lady, the collection also includes classic and renovated Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, Porsche 356 Coupe, Porchse 356 Speedster, and the Porsche 550 Spyder, with more to be revealed soon.
For automotive enthusiasts or lovers of design, science, and technology, then a tour of the Tuksedo Studios is an absolute must.
Tours of the workshop are available by appointment only and are on offer from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 6 pm.
Reservations can be booked online via form on the Tuksedo Studios workshop, and by providing a little bit of background as to your interest in classic cars and the purpose of the visit, the Tuksedo Studio team can tailor the visit to suit your level of knowledge and specific passions.
While Tuksedo Studio’s vehicles stay safe in the workshop until purchased for tourists wishing to whizz around Bali in a vintage classic car, there are few options available.
Lusi Damai Classic Car Bali offers vintage car rental services for photoshoots and adventures; they specialize in car hire for weddings and events.
The three Mercedes Benz 280s, all hailing from the 1970s, offer tourists the chance to bring a sense of vintage luxe to a Bali getaway.
Sewa Mobil Klasik is an incredibly popular vintage car rental provider in Bali.
The company boasts an incredible range of iconic classic cars, including the 1970s-style VW Beetle, the 1970s VW Campervan, vintage Toyota 4x4s, and a range of convertibles.
Sewa Mobil Klasik is a specialist in classic vehicle rental for photoshoots and events, though they do offer vacation tours to incredible destinations like the Black Lava Hills of Kintamani for stunning photoshoots.
A final mention has to go to Bali Kuno, which offers guided tours of Bali, including a Bali safari-style adventure in vintage Land Rovers, VW Safaris, and the Mavia.
Guided tours of Bongkasa Village, Penglipuran Village, and Tangkup Village are all available to book via the Bali Kuno website.

Tuksedo Studio made a replica Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing for Indonesian top politician (MPR RI chairman). Cost 5 Milyar or USD 320,000. Considering labour cost in Indonesia that is quite excessive.
