Visits to Bali’s Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park are soaring.
With more and more tourists interested in learning about the Island of the Gods, the GWK Cultural Park is quickly becoming the go-to destination for tourists seeking a cultural immersion.
Managers at GWK Cultural Park, close to Uluwatu, have recorded an extraordinary achievement. They have seen a huge increase in tourist visits, with the current figure having exceeded the number of visitors before the Covid-19 pandemic. This is before December is up!
And there is heaps happening over the Christmas and New Year holidays at the park.
Speaking to reporters the GWK Cultural Park Operations Director, Stefanus Yonathan Astayasa, revealed that tourist visits by the end of November reached 5,000 people per day.
Yet before the pandemic, the peak number of daily visits was usually in the range of 3,500-3,800 on weekdays and reached 6,000 people per day during high season. Currently, the top average daily visits have reached 8,000 people per day.
Astayasa said, “It is estimated that in the second week of December, visits will increase to 7,000 people per day, and the peak in the third week is estimated to reach 8,000-10,000 people per day.”
He added “This achievement exceeds the highest number of visits before the pandemic…“after the G20 Summit, we saw a quite large increase in visits from foreign nationals. Especially from Australia, India, and China which occupy the top positions.”
Despite this huge period of growth, the GWK Cultural Park is still more popular with domestic tourists than international visits.
Managers want to work to address this balance in the coming months, as the attraction has so much to offer international tourists.
Astayasa said “We will prepare additional cultural content at GWK next year. This content will be placed on the ground floor of the GWK statue, highlighting traditional Balinese culture with a modern and interactive touch. “We are preparing it and we hope it will be completed by the end of next year.”
Music lovers in Bali this weekend to make sure they’ve got their tickets for the 15th Djakarta Warehouse Project Festival that will be held at the GWK Cultural Park on the 8th-10th December.
This huge event will see world-class DJs grace the stage including none other than David Guetta.
This huge festival will take over the park this weekend and there are still tickets available online.
GWK’s Marketing Communications & Event Division Head, Andre R Prawiradisastra, told reporters that the public should expect some changes to the normal day-to-day activities at the park this weekend.
He said “Not everything is closed, but we provide tourist visits only to the main GWK statue. Via the east ring outside, it remains open from 09.00-15.00 in the afternoon, because the DWPXV event starts at 16.00 WITA.”
The epic festival is attracting huge crowds to the Bukit Peninsula this weekend. Prawiradisastra added “We are very happy to be able to return to Bali and celebrate DWP’s 15th milestone at GWK.”
“Our target is to provide an extraordinary experience to the more than 80 thousand visitors who attend.”

Prawiradisastra told reporters “With the increase in area size this year, the 15th DWP is committed to continuing to develop and improve the quality of the event, making DWP an unforgettable annual destination.”
He concluded, “With the hope that more than 38 countries will take part, the 15th DWP is ready to celebrate the diversity of music and culture in Bali, creating unforgettable moments for electronic music fans all over the world.”
