The popular e-taxi service Grab has just released a new set of safety features to help protect tourists in Bali.

Grab is the leading online taxi service provider in Southeast Asia, and its safety features are designed to make tourists, specifically women and children, feel more comfortable.

Speaking at the launch of the Grab Security and Safety Center feature event in Badung Regency this week the Indonesia’s Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection praised the taxi provider for its great work.

Minister I Gusti Ayu Bintang Dharmawati said that the protection of tourists, especially women and children when using public transport in Bali should be a top priority.

She shared her gratitude with Grab for going above and beyond to ensure that the safety features are available and easy to use for everyone.

Minster Dharmawati told reporters, “This is an extraordinary breakthrough in providing security protection and comfort to tourists when using this mode of transportation.”

The Grab Security and Safety Center feature will now be displayed on the app for users in Bali.

The page contains emergency contact numbers, a list of local police stations, a list of nearby hospitals, a dedicated hotline for sexual violence, and the details of the embassies on the island.

The information is available in English, Bahasa Indonesia, and Mandarin.

These days, one of the first few questions people ask when traveling to a destination is : Is there an equivalent of UBER or LYFT ? . Well, you’ll be surprised to hear that even Bali has its share of ride hailing apps, and one of them is : Grab . The information can be accessed via the app, by scanning the QR which will be on promotion materials around the island, or by visiting the Grab website.

Minster Dharmawati added that the new feature and its availability throughout Bali are good times as the Christmas holidays are approaching and the tourism sector is gearing up to give tourists the best service possible.

She added, “We hope it can be an inspiration for other modes of transportation.”

The Grab Indonesia Country Managing Director, Neneng Goenadi, told reporters, “This effort is part of our contribution to maintaining the tourism image of Bali, which is a favorite place for domestic and foreign tourists.”

Goenadi added, “Hopefully, the presence of this page will make it easier for travelers who come. Maybe this looks simple for those who already live in Bali, but this will help tourists.”

And it’s true. Many tourists, especially solo female travelers, prefer to use online taxi service providers like Grab, GoJek, and Uber while traveling specifically for the safety protections already built into the app.

Grab says, “No consumer or partner should have to feel unsafe while using any of our services. Grab is always on standby to ensure a smooth and secure experience, no matter where you are or what service you choose to use.”

Safety features include driver and delivery partner facial recognition.

This feature requires drivers and partners to authenticate and verify their identification using the app’s facial recognition technology at least once a day to ensure that only roistered drivers are using the driver account.

There is a 24/7 Safety Centre where passengers can report any concerns to a dedicated operative. One of the most effective safety technologies available with Grab is trip monitoring.

Grab continuously monitors the passenger’s ride to detect unsafe scenarios and sends an alert notification to users in case they need any support.

Grab is the safest ride-hailing service in Southeast Asia and is available to use throughout the island, including for pick up and drop off at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Government leaders have repeatedly confirmed that tourists are allowed to use Grab and GoJek taxi services.

However, over the years, there have been tensions between local private taxi drivers and ride-hailing taxi drivers who feel that the online taxi services are undercutting their rates and stealing their customers; this is why busy areas in popular resorts have no Grab and no GoJek signs.

I was robbed by a Grab driver in KL last week. Stopped at a minimart to pick up some water and he took off. Neither the Malaysian police or Grab did anything about it. I lost 4000usd in goods.

Their interim solution was to cancel my account to stop me from complaining.

So we gonna let these safe taxi services pick people up from the villages that they can't currently enter due to the local taxi mafia protecting their cash cows at tourists expense?
