World Famous Bali Village To Host 5km Fun Run For Tourists And Local Communities

Bali’s Penglipuran Village is one of the most recognizable communities in all of Indonesia. The winners of the UN World Tourism Best Village in the World award, Penglipuran Village, shot to international acclaim and have continued to pioneer sustainable cultural tourism in the region.

Now Penglipuran Village is coming together once again, this time to create a health and wellness tourism initiative that we know The Bali Sun readers are going to want to get involved in.

Penglipuran Village, in Bangli Regency, is one of Bali’s last remaining pedestrianized villages. Surrounded by an ancient and sacred bamboo forest, a visit to Penglipuran Village offers tourists the chance to learn more about Balinese culture and the island’s heritage across village life and life on the land. 

With Penglipuran Village sitting as one of the most popular cultural attractions in Bali, the team is always looking for new ways to encourage visits and bring the community together. Speaking to reporters, Penglipuran Tourism Village Manager Wayan Sumiarsa confirmed that the attraction will be hosting a series of events to help bring in more visitors and showcase all that Penglipuran Village has to offer in more diverse ways. 

Sumiarsa shared, “We are presenting a fun run on June 7, 2026, as part of our efforts to strengthen the image of cultural, nature, and health-based tourism villages. This activity will involve the general public and local residents, with a target of 500 participants.”

The fun run really is a community gathering event, and while surely everyone’s competitive streak will be let loose, the idea is to enjoy being active, enjoy being together, and enjoy being in one of the most beautiful villages in the world. 

The running route will go through Penglipuran Village itself and through the Penglipuran Bamboo Forest area. Sumiarsa shared, “The cool air, clean environment, and comfortable village atmosphere are the main attractions in supporting a healthy lifestyle and fitness-based tourism activities.”

He added, “Until now, Penglipuran Village has been known as a cultural and environmental destination. In the future, we want to add value to Penglipuran as a wellness tourism destination. This is indeed a sporting event, but it is geared towards wellness.”

The event, formally known as the Penglipu-Run 2026, will be a simple 5km route, much of which goes through the 45-hectare bamboo forest.

Sumiarsa shared, “Participants are not only invited to exercise, but also to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and unique culture of Penglipuran Village. The route starts from the south at the hero’s monument, goes around the village and enters the bamboo forest, and finally returns to the relief area of the main tourist village.”

With just 500 spots available, the fun run is surely going to be a sell-out success. Penglipuran Village is not only a popular attraction for international tourists but also for domestic tourists.

Families and school groups from all over Indonesia travel to Penglipuran Village to learn firsthand about the unique Balinese way of life preserved so diligently.

Tickets for the Penglipu-Run 2026 are available now, and of course, no community-based event in Bali would be complete without a commemorative shirt and other merchandise that can be purchased ahead of the big day, ready to collect before the race begins. Early bird tickets have already sold out, but other race tickets and packages are available.

Regular race tickets are shared at IDR 170,000 and include access to Penglipuran Village for tourist visits. The Stay Experience includes overnight accommodation and breakfast in the Penglipuran Bamboo Cafe, for IDR 470,000, and offers a more immersive experience for runners and culture lovers.

The Refresh Package, charged at IDR 270,000, includes race and village access and a meal and drink at the cafe. The race starts at 6 am, so participants must be up and ready to go! Will we see you at the start line?
