Two Women Arrested After Stealing Cell Phones From Bali Expats

Two women who have been identified as Junaedi (Jeni) and Rudi Suhermanto (Mak Rida) have been arrested after stealing cell phones from expats in Bali.

The Head of the Badung Public Relations Police Officer, Iptu Oka Bawa confirmed that the investigation began when a 36-year-old women named Maria Cristina Rodriguez filed a report to the Badung Police Department regarding the theft incident which happened in Kerobokan, North Kuta on Wednesday evening (7/4) around 10:30pm.

According to information from the officer, the incident occured when the victim was on her way from Motel Mexicola to Kubu Homestay that is located on Jalan Pantai Berawa, North Kuta. Shortly after, when the victim made a stop on Jalan Batu Belig Kerobokan, the two suspects with a motorbike suddenly approached the victim and attempted to distract her by starting to talk to her. As Maria was unaware of the situation, the suspect snatched her cell phone from her handbag and ran away.

“Junaedi was finally arrested on Jalan Marlboro, West Denpasar on Friday (21/5), and based on information from Junaedi we also arrested the other suspect shortly after from her place in the Mengwi area.” Iptu Oka Bawa said. During the interrogation, both suspects admitted that they have done similar activity in 5 different areas on the island. The suspects have been arrested and are being held at the Badung Police Department for further investigation.
