The official police and security operation for Nypei and Eid has been launched. As the province prepares for one of the biggest festival periods of the year, security officers from across agencies have been given their orders and missions to keep the public safe during the most important time of the year in Indonesia.

Police line up ready for operation in Bali

On Wednesday 19th March Bali Police held its Ketupat Agung 2025 Pre-Operation Exercise. The event was led by Karoops Polda Bali, Kombes Pol Soelistijono at the Presisi Warehouse Polda Bali, and was attended by the Head of Task Force, Head of Sub-Task Force and Ops officials, as well as all personnel involved in the upcoming security operations.

This year, Nyepi and Eid will fall on the same weekend. As Bali falls still and quiet for the Day of Silence, Muslims around the world will be preparing to observe Eid al-Fitr.

Nyepi Day will be observed on Saturday 29th March, and Eid al-Fitr is expected to take place on Sunday 30th March, or Monday 31st March; following the sighting go the moon.

Speaking to the media Kombes Soelistinjono explained “I ask my instructors to provide technical and tactical ways of acting in each Task Force to the participants, so that the output of this training provides a common perception in carrying out tasks in the field and can provide the best service for the community.”

Over the next two weeks there will be 16 priority programs underway in Bali by order of the Chief of Police, as well as the introduction of the Police Homecoming Hotline service “110” which will be available to able to assist travelers who need support. The Police slogan for the operation is “Safe Homecoming, Comfortable Family”.

On Thursday 20th March a roll call operation was held for Operation Ketupat Agung 2025 at Puputan Margarana Field in Renon in Denpasar. The event was led by Bali Police Chief, Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya, accompanied by the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, and attended by top officials from the Indonesian Army, the Transportation Agency, Satpol PP, Basarnas, and other related agencies.

In his speech the Bali Police Chief read out a message from the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who emphasized the importance of cooperation between the army and the police and all other stakeholders to ensure the smooth running and security of the community in celebrating Nyepi and Eid.

Operation Ketupat 2025 will be implemented nationwide and in Bali the operation will formally start on 23rd March and run until 8th April 2025.

He shared “This troop roll call is a form of final check on the readiness of personnel and infrastructure before the operation. This is also to ensure that all elements involved are ready to provide the best service to the community.”

It is not only police officers who will be deployed in Bali, but civil police officers and other government agency officials who will be out and about ensuring public safety and security as millions of domestic tourists travel throughout the country for Eid.

One of the biggest focal points in the Nyepi and Eid management plan is Gilimanuk Harbor, which is the main entry point for domestic tourists traveling to Bali from Java.

Top officials in Bali have been pleading with the tourists, both domestic and international, not to travel on the 28th March, the day before Nyepi.

As much as possible, leaders want the public to be ‘in position’ for the Day of Silence before midday on the 28th March 2025. From midday on 28th March, businesses across Bali will close, and from 3pm localised road closures will be in place ahead of Pengrupukan, also known as the Ogoh-Ogoh Parades.

Planning ahead to keep traffic moving into central Bali from the west, Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operation Ketupat Agung 2025, Senior Commissioner Pol Ariasandy, told reporters that extra teams will be deployed along the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route.

From 6am on 28th March until 6am on 30th March, no goods trucks or large lorries will be permitted to drive along the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route in order to prioritise traffic.

Tourists traveling anywhere around Bali over the next two weeks are advised to leave even more travel time than usual, to expect traffic congestion, road closures or diversions and to be prepared to see more security officers in all areas.

Many businesses, including top attractions, may operate different or limited opening hours; it is always best to check opening hours directly with each venue before traveling.
