The Indonesian Tourism Minister, Sandiaga Uno has predicted an influx in domestic visitors once the partial lockdown has been lifted.
During a webinar about the optimism of reviving tourism and creative economic #Diindonesiaaja in Jakarta on Saturday (7/8), Sandiaga stated that based on information from several countries such as the United States, India and Europe, the number of travelers have shown an increase once lockdowns have ended. “Based on other countries’ experience, their number of travelers tends to surge once they end their lockdown as people begin to travel and purchase local products to support the economy.” Sandiaga said.
He reminds officials in the creative economy and tourism sectors that they are required to prepare for the potential influx by digitizing their sectors. Sandiaga was also optimistic that the Bali tourism sector will be less disrupted as long as all prevention protocols are strictly implemented. He also strives to achieve at least a 2.39% growth in the tourism sector between now and the end of 2021 by implementing the 3 G’s – Gercep (move fast), Geber (move together), Gaspol (optimize every potential).
However, Sandiaga reminds the tourism sector to be more focused on optimizing their domestic market, especially while the international travel corridor is still closed. “Despite the decrease in the number of domestic visitors this year in comparison with 2020, we still have lots of opportunities that could potentially revive our economy and help the tourism sector overcome the crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There is potential for positive growth before the border reopens for international tourists.” Sandiaga concluded.
