A major security operation is underway in Bali. Operation Ketupat Agung 2025 is a nationwide security mission in Indonesia to promote safety and security during the Nyepi and the Lebaran Eid al-Fitr religious festivals and the subsequent public holidays. The operation kicked off on 20th March and will be in place until 8th April 2025.

More security teams have been deployed all across Bali.
From Gilimanuk Habor, which connects travelers to East Bali, to Sanur Port, which connects tourists to Nusa Penida and beyond, and at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, which connects everyone, everywhere, security teams are working around the clock to ensure safety, security, and cultural respect.
All transport hubs in Bali are particularly busy right now. As Lebaran is the busiest public holiday in Indonesia, domestic tourism is booming right now.
On Sunday 30th March, the first day after the holy day of silence in Bali known as Nyepi, Bali Airport service 73,000 passengers across 390 flights. There has been a small but significant number of tourists arriving at Bali Airport compared to the Eid holiday last year, with 3% more tourists having arrived during the holiday period so far, with many more to come before the public holidays come to a close next weekend.
The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, told reporters “Although compared to last year’s Eid, it has not shown significant growth, but if you look at the daily average of passengers in January and February 2025, over the last three days the numbers have improved.”
He confirmed that everything is going smoothly over at Bali Airport and shared “This is thanks to the support of all related agencies involved in the Lebaran transportation post. Airport operations, especially during the peak homecoming period, can run smoothly and under control.”
Shahab concluded “With the Eid holiday period still quite long, we will continue to strengthen coordination and increase supervision to ensure the quality of service to passengers is maintained. In addition to the homecoming flow, the airport is also expected to still be crowded with tourists who want to vacation in Bali.”
Tourists can expect to see additional police, army and security staff at Bali Airport and all major transport hubs, as well as helping to manage traffic at congestion points.
The Bali Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner Pol. Ariasany, told reporters on Tuesday 1st April that police will be stationed across top attractions and along the routes leading to Bali’s most in demand destinations.

Pol. Ariasany, shared “Regarding the long holiday, there are a number of tourist attractions that are the focus of security because they are expected to be crowded with tourists.”
“Some of them are Bedugul Botanical Gardens, Kuta, Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK), Sanur, Tanah Lot, Uluwatu, Kintamani, Canggu, and other destinations.”
Tourists traveling in and around any of these areas between now and 8th April should be mindful to leave extra travel time and to expect both traffic delays and busy crowds.

Pol. Ariasany has echoed the sentiments of many leaders in Bali who have called for all tourists, both domestic and international, to respect Balinese culture and abide by the law throughout their visit.
The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, has just reissued his list of do and don’t behaviours for tourists visiting Bali. The provincial leader wants to see stricter enforcement of these rules to help promote more culturally respectful and sustainable tourism in Bali.

Rules include honoring local customs, traditions, arts, and culture and wearing modest and appropriate clothing when visiting sacred sites, tourist attractions, and public areas.
Pol Ariassany concluded “We urge tourists, both local and foreign, to always be careful and maintain their own safety. In crowded places, there is the potential for criminal acts that can harm all parties.”
