The Meru In Bali’s Revamped Sanur Wins Big At Top International Hotel Awards

Bali’s The Meru Hotel in Sanur is celebrating a significant win on the global stage. The Meru neighbours the world-famous Bali Beach Hotel, both of which are managed by the state-owned company InJourney.

Through both properties, guests now also have access to seamless integrated healthcare at the Sanur Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism. 

InJourney, Indonesian leaders and hotel staff at The Meru are celebrating the inclusion of the hotel on the prestigious list of Savour BlackBookAsia Unadulterated List 2025. The Meru Sanur has not only entered the Savour BlackBookAsia’s Hall of Fame on the 100 Best Hotels in the World, but also won the title of Bali’s Best Hotels & Resorts.

The Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, which is the most famous hotel in Sanur, also secures its position as one of the best resorts and hotels in Bali.

In fact, Bali Beach Hotel is one of the most important heritage hotels in Bali, as it was the first multi-storey hotel on the island and remains a beacon of Balinese hospitality to this day.

Sanur is official in its new era as the Special Economic Zone (KEK) for Medical and Wellness Tourism. This redevelopment of the island’s original beach resort has seen the construction of the Bali International Hospital, as well as dozens of new medical facilities, clinics, and a new shopping mall and lifestyle complex.

ICON Bali Mall features extensive retail facilities as well as a floating market, vertical forest, cultural amphitheater, and gallery.

Speaking to reporters following the big win, the President Director of InJourney, Maya Watono, said. She shared, “KEK Sanur will be one of the leading health and tourism centers with international standards. The recognition of The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel is expected to make KEK Sanur more well-known by international tourists and strengthen its position as the first international health and wellness destination in Indonesia. So that in the end it will give a broad economic impact that can be felt by the community.”

The President Director of InJourney Hospitality, Christine Hutabarat, told reporters, “This international award is an important step in strengthening The Sanur’s position as a world-class health and tourism destination.”

“The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel become a showcase that showcases the world a combination of hospitality, tropical international standard luxury with Indonesian cultural heritage.”

To be included on the Unadulterated List 2025 from Savour BlackBookAsia is a huge deal for these two Bali hotel icons. The award is an annually curated list decided upon by the Savour BlackBookAsia. The annual awards explore the best hotels, resorts, restaurants, and destinations around the world.

The in-depth assessments include service quality, visitor experience, consistency of international standards in facilities, design, and gastronomy, as well as the standout and unique elements of each property. 

The award win also caught the attention of Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprise, Erick Thohir, who shared his praise for The Meru on social media.

He wrote, “Alhamdulillah, The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, which is part of KEK Keshetan Sanur, achieved international recognition in the version of Savour BlackBookAsia Unadulterated List 2025. The Meru Sanur made it onto the Hall of Fame: The 100 Best Hotels in the World list, while Bali Beach Hotel was awarded The Heritage Collection.”

Minister Thohir has overseen the redevelopment of Sanur into a special economic zone for Medical Tourism since he arrived in his post in October 2019.

Thohir added, “Since the laying of the first stone by President Joko Widodo in 2021 and the inauguration of Mr. President Prabowo Subianto in 2025, KEK Health Sanur has not only become a symbol of healthcare innovation, but also capable of becoming a world-class tourism destination.

He concluded, “We from the Ministry of BUMN as regulators support the development of KEK Health, which is assigned as a health ecosystem in various other areas of Indonesia.”
