Uluwatu’s issues with traffic congestion are beyond a joke at this point. The problem with traffic congestion on the Bukit has been talked about by local residents and tourists for years, and leaders are now stepping up and introducing new traffic flows that should help alleviate traffic jams in the popular vacation hotspots.
It’s not the most wild and exciting travel news we’ve ever covered here at The Bali Sun, but if you know, you know. This is a big deal.

Desa Pecatu, aka Pecatu Village, aka Uluwatu, and the surrounding tourist area, has confirmed that as of 2nd June 2026, a new traffic flow will be introduced on Jalan Raya Uluwatu.
To be clear, this marks the start of the testing period for the new traffic engineering work, but there are hopes that the new system will be a success and will result in permanent changes.
There are three major changes that will come into effect. The first is that vehicles from Jalan Raya Uluwatu are prohibited from going to Toya Ning II Road between 2 pm and 10 pm.
The second is that vehicles from Toya Ning II Street traveling towards Jalan Raya Uluwatu are prohibited from turning right at 2 pm and 10 pm. The third new rule is that all vehicles, except motorcycles, from the intersection of Jalan Baler Setra – Jalan Belimbing Sari are prohibited from entering Jalan Raya Uluwatu between 2 pm and 10 pm.
This will naturally impact the traffic flow along Jalan Raya Uluwatu, Toya Ning II Road, Jalan Baler Setra, and Jalan Belimbing Sari but will also impact traffic along Jalan Masuka, Jalan Melasti, Jalan Ungasan, Jalan Goa Lempeh, and the surrounding streets.
This new traffic flow comes into effect just as the high season begins on the 2nd June 2026, and while the traffic engineering is set to bring about positive changes, it could also bring about traffic chaos in the first few days.
Desa Pecatu has shared “The public and road users are urged to pay attention to traffic signs, follow instructions of officers on the field, and adjust travel times and routes during the probation period.”
The new traffic flow system is being brought into effect pretty quickly. It was only earlier this month that the Badung Regency Government and the Badung Transportation Agency confirmed plans to introduce drastic changes to improve transportation and access in the Uluwatu area for both local residents and tourists.

Speaking on the 17th May, Head of the Badung Regency Transportation Agency, Anak Agung Gede Rahmadi, said that new traffic engineering systems that will be developed will focus on six congestion-prone areas in the Pecatu area and its surroundings.
He explained, “In principle, we’re reducing traffic interruptions. Previously, congestion was caused by intersections, which led to delays. Now, we’re creating a kind of loop to keep traffic flowing.”

He conveyed that he and his teams had a deep understanding of where the biggest problems are being faced and the impact these problems are having on local communities and visitors to the area.
Rahmadi noted, “If traffic jams continue to build on the road to Pecatu or Uluwatu, it will certainly waste time and create discomfort. As directed by our leadership, tourism must be high-quality and comfortable. Therefore, we must ease traffic congestion to bring comfort and prosperity to the community.”

Rahmadi is a representative for all of Badung Regency, which means he and his teams also oversee top destinations like Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, and Canggu. He told reporters that he hoped successes in Uluwatu could be replicated in other tourism hotspots also affected by traffic congestion.
He concluded, “The plan is to go to Canggu. We’ll try to break it down one by one, gradually. This is a short-term program, while the long-term plan will involve opening a new road.”
