Bali Governor Wayan Koster has requested that the Buleleng Regency Government implement new regulations to ensure that the landscape around the new Turyapada Tower remains a green haven for nature.
The Turyapada Tower is a transmitter tower that will allow for digital television broadcasts, telecommunications, internet, and radio communications across Bali and will also serve as a major new tourist attraction in the province’s north.
The Turyapada Tower is impressively 115m tall and cost IDR 418 billion to build. It was created to eliminate signal blank zones across Karangasem Regency, Buleleng Regency, and Jembrana Regency.
Not only has Turyapada Tower been envisioned as a tool to help connectivity across Bali, but is also destined to serve as a significant new tourist attraction.
With the Turyapada Tower now serving as a transmitter, the seance phase of development is in full swing. The attraction also features a skywalk that enables tourists to take in the panoramic views of Buleleng Regency from new heights.
During a visit to the site in October 2024 the Acting Governor of Bali at the time, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, told reporters “Visitors will feel an extraordinary sensation when they are at the top, the view is beautiful, and the adrenaline will increase.” He also confirmed that Turyapada Tower would be a free-to-visit tourist attraction for both domestic tourists and international visitors.
This week, the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, who signed off on the development of Turyapada Tower during his first term in office, has issued updated guidance on plans for the tourism attraction.
He told reporters, “I’ve asked the Regent to immediately make regional regulations for this area so that in a certain radius [buildings] can be built, but in this area within a distance of many meters, it cannot be built. Maintain this as a green area.”
He wants to ensure that there are no tall building developed in the immediate vicinity of the tower to ensure that the natural landscape of Buleleng Regency is preserved and the vista remains enjoyable for visitors.
The Regent of Buleleng, Nyoman Sutjidra, told reporters that he would gladly honor Governor Koster’s requests. Regent Sutjirda explained “This area must be protected, so later we will create a special area regulation so that later the development will not be diverted, we will arrange it so that it remains beautiful as it is now.”
Turyapada Tower is located near some of Bali’s leading cultural and natural tourist attractions. While technically in Buleleng Regency, it is just a stone’s throw from Bedugul, Tabanan Regency’s highland resort area.
The central hills of Bali are home to incredible cultural wonders like Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and the Botanical Gardens of Bali. There is so much to explore in these hills.
Tourists often overlook Bedugul and the central highlands of Bali in favor of coastal resorts like Uluwatu, Canggu, and Seminyak.
Even those looking for a green retreat are generally more inclined to visit Ubud or Sidemen. However, Bedugul and the central highlands of Bali offer tourists cool air, vast rolling landscapes, cultural immersion, remarkable affordability, and a crowd-free experience.
For tourists returning to Bali for a second, third…or perhaps fifteen vacations on the island, then orienting a stay around the central highlands is a smart move.
Attractions such as the Turyapada Tower, Handara Gate, The Blooms Garden, and the Twin Lakes are all within a 20-minute drive.
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, for example, is just an hour’s drive to Lovina Beach, Bali’s most famous northern beach resort.
With so much to discover, tourists visiting Bali for the first time would be wise to plan a day trip or even an overnight stay during their vacation.
