There is a lot to be excited about in terms of Bali travel in 2026.
Australian tourists have long been Bali’s most frequent international arrivals, and it looks like 2026 will be another year when the special relationship deepens further.

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is Indonesia’s second busiest airport and the gateway for millions of international arrivals to the country every year. For over a decade, Australian tourists have been the most frequent international arrivals to Bali, and 2026 already looks to be no exception.
Travel and tourism leaders in Indonesia are committed to ensuring that Bali, as the nation’s flagship travel destination, becomes better connected than ever.
There is a long-term vision to see Bali become an international travel transit hub, on par with cities like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Hong Kong.
In 2025, Bali Airport welcomed a series of new international and domestic flight services to the weekly schedule, and in 2026, even more will be added to the mix.
On 10th March, the popular low-cost airline Indonesia AirAsia will be launching a new direct service between Melbourne and Bali. With tickets starting at as little as AUD 199 here at The Bali Sun, we know that this will quickly become one of the most in-demand flight services on the schedule.
In a press release, Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, Acting CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, shared, “Bali remains a top destination for many Australians, captivating the hearts of travellers, young and old. This strategic launch strengthens Indonesia AirAsia’s presence in Australia and opens a key gateway connecting Southeast Asia to southern Australia. The daily Melbourne–Denpasar route reflects our goal to provide greater, more affordable and flexible access between Indonesia and Australia.”
Adding “This initiative also strengthens social and economic ties, encourages business collaboration, and gives travellers more opportunities to experience the unique culture of both destinations.”
The new service is also being hailed as a success by Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne, who shared his support for the new venture.
Prasetyo shared, “The introduction of direct flights between Melbourne and Denpasar is a tangible step in enhancing the strategic partnership between Australia and Indonesia. Beyond boosting tourism flows, this improved connectivity will benefit cooperation in economic, education, and cultural sectors, as well as encourage collaboration between communities in both countries.”
“With this increased access, the relationship between Indonesia and Australia will continue to grow and deliver mutual benefits.”
