Speaking to reporters, the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, explained that the number of passenger movements at the airport is increasing yet again.

While sharing travel data for July 2023, Heryudhitiawan was able to share that the 30-day period was the busiest the airport had been since the beginning of the pandemic.

This has been celebrated as a welcome sign that tourism in Bali continues to grow, highlighting that the island is as popular as ever with tourists from all over the world

Heryudhitiawan shared that Bali Airport has served 11,887,437 passengers across the domestic and international terminals from January to the end of July 2023. July marks the peak of the tourist high season in Bali.

In July, 1,150,051 international passengers passed through the airport, serving 581,803 passengers on arrival and 568,248 departing passengers.

In previous years this sheer volume of international traffic at Bali Airport would have been the source of headlines and online backlash about queue times for immigration, baggage claim, and customs.

Yet, this year anecdotal reports of lengthy queues have been few and far between. Bali Airport has committed to reducing arrival times for tourists in Bali.

During a visit to Bali Airport late last month, the Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Silmy Karim, affirmed that his teams have been ordered to keep processing times to an absolute minimum.

Director General Karim has set Bali Airpot targets to ensure that all tourists are guided through the arrivals process as efficiently as possible, reducing queue times to less than 20 minutes, even during rush hour.

He revealed, “From the side of the crossing at Immigration Checkpoint where the crossing is at Ngurah Rai. Later we will upgrade equipment such as automated so that later it will also make it easier to speed crossings.”

The second most popular airline to fly to Bali with is AirAsia Indonesia, with 684 movements and 107,079 passengers, and followed by Batik Air Malaysia with 472 movements and 94,778 passengers in the month of July.

The daily Dubai-Bali Emirates flight, which is served by the world’s biggest commercial aircraft, lands in I Gusti Ngurah Rai daily.

The flight occupancy has reached 95% and 62,779 tourists were served by Emirates in July 2023.

Domestic travel by domestic and international travelers is also on the rise. Many international travelers use Bali as the first stop on their Indonesia Odessy, and connectivity with other incredible destinations in the country is high.

The best airlines to fly domestically within Indonesia are Citilink, Lion Air, and Air Asia, each offering budget-friendly and daily services to Indonesia’s most iconic destinations, including Jakarta, Surabaya and Labuan Bajo.

The most frequently traveled flight routes to Bali as of July 2023 are Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Melbourne. In July, 92,345 passengers flew to Bali from Melbourne, which is hardly surprising; Australian tourists remain the most frequent international arrivals in Bali no matter the season.

Heryudhitiawan concluded his press statement by confirming that more flight routes connecting Bali to even more key destinations are in the pipeline.

@John Browning, Mismanaged to death so they have to pull back on routes. Search "garuda corruption" using google and you will find a list of large corruption cases draining garuda of funds for years. A disgrace. Worst managed airline in the world possibly?
