Logistics and shipping companies in Bali are onto a good thing. Realizing that more and more tourists and travelers want to invest in all the beautiful things that are available to purchase from Bali’s traditional markets, artisan galleries, boutiques, and malls, shipping companies have set up dedicated services for tourists.
With the cost of living increasing just about everywhere, and with airlines now charging what feels like way more for luggage as standard, let alone extra baggage, it’s a smart choice for travelers to buy what their heart’s desire, ship it home hassle-free, and, in short, yes…save money.
Speaking to reporters, Muhammad Ekhsan, a shipping agent in Bali, said that demand for shipping is increasing overall but especially during peak tourist periods.
The items typically shipped include Balinese souvenirs, clothing, and handicrafts; items that cannot be found elsewhere and are unique to Bali.
He explained, “During the holiday season or long weekends, shipping demand increases significantly. Many travelers choose to ship their goods because it’s more convenient and reduces baggage.”
It is not only international tourists who are jumping on this trend, but domestic tourists too, with holidaymakers from Jakarta to Makassar to Medan all shipping boxes of fantastic Bali finds back home.
He noted that in terms of shipping Balinese products internationally, the majority of parcels are heading to Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Ekshan explained that products sent by foreign tourists are mostly handicrafts, accessories, fashion products, and local Balinese health and food supplements, including wellbeing products and spices.
Ekhsan said some foreign tourists use these delivery services after an extended stay in Bali. He shared, “Usually, they send items to family or friends back home. Customer response is also quite good, as shipping is considered more convenient.”
Ekhsan told reporters that he only started his logistics business in 2021 and said that shipping demand continues to grow along with increased tourism activity.
There are independent and franchised shipping agents like Ekshan operating throughout Bali and Indonesia more broadly. Then there are major shipping operators like Lion Parcel, which is the cargo arm of the budget airline, Lion Air.
Lion Parcel Chief Retail Officer, Febri Andika, told reporters that the logistics sector is now increasingly intertwined with the tourism sector.
Andika noted that the high mobility of tourists creates a growing need for shipping services. He explained, “The high mobility of tourists has also increased the need for shipping. This isn’t just about logistics services, but also opens up business opportunities for the community through agency partnerships.”
