Massive Landslide Blocks Entry Into Bali Village

A landslide has blocked access into Sepang Kelod Village, Buleleng, Friday night (15/1).

As a result, hundreds of families in the village are unable to access their homes.

The head of Sepang Village, Kelod I Kutut Ngurah, said its the worst disaster in 20 years.

According to Ngurah, confirmed that 5 landslides could not be managed.

“Until Saturday afternoon, the mud from the landslide blocked access to 5 different locations in Sepang Kelod Village,” Ketut Ngurah said. 

According to data from village authorities, 213 families in Banjar Dinas Gunung Sari and 40 families in Banjar Dinas Asah Badung have been isolated due to the closure of road access.

The blockage has not yet been cleared as the material of the landslide was not only mud but also logs and rocks in large diameter.

Workers have been trying to clear the road manually as it became impossible for heavy equipment to reach inside the area.

The evacuation attempt was also delayed due to heavy rain.

Meanwhile the Head of Subdistrict Busungbiu, I Gede Putra Aryana said that he is trying to identify the damage from the incident in Sepang Kelod Village.

“We will deploy heavy equipment from Disaster Management tomorrow when the weather is better to help the evacuation process” Putra Aryana concluded.
