A 29-year-old man named Saba Ora from Sumba, West Nusa Tenggara, was arrested for breaking into a shop in Tabanan.
The Head of the Kediri Police Department, Kompol Fahmi Hamdani, confirmed that this local ‘Robin Hood’ was arrested after stealing from a shop in Jalan Bingin Ambe Kediri, Tabanan to host a birthday party for his friend.
“The suspect was arrested from his place, which is located in front of the shop that he broke into on Sunday (16/1),” Kompol Hamdani said on Wednesday (19/1).
The suspect managed to break into a local shop that belonged to a man named Herman Siswan (aged 39). He stole USD $175 (IDR 2.5 million) cash from inside a wallet and a large number of cigarettes, causing the victim to lose a total of USD $600 (IDR 8 million) from the incident.
During the interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had spent most of the stolen cash and cigarettes to host his friend’s birthday party.
“The suspect admitted that he spent the cash to buy a crate of beer and handed out all the cigarettes to celebrate the birthday of a friend in Gianyar,” Kompol Hamdani added. The suspect knows the shop well as he was a regular customer there prior to the incident.
“The suspect will potentially face seven years of imprisonment in accordance with Article 363 of the Criminal Law Book,” Kompol Hamdani concluded.
