Man Arrested In Kuta Bali After Snatching Tourist’s Phone Admits to 5 Robberies

24-year-old Made Jantan Wiradarma (a.k.a Alex) has been arrested after snatching a cellphone from a tourist on Jalan Padma in Kuta, Bali.

The victim that has been identified as Silvia Rima Palupi from Magelang, Central Java was on a motorbike with her boyfriend during their vacation on Tuesday night Sept 8th 2020 at around 8:00 pm.

Head of Kuta Criminal Investigation, Iptu I Made Yusdistira said that when the couple made a stop to check google maps,  the perpetrator suddenly snatched it from their hands.

“The perpetrator and his friend approached them and snatched the Iphone XI Pro Max and then fled” Yudistira said during a press conference on Monday Nov 2nd 2020.

The couple attempted to chase the perpetrator but lost him in the crowd.

The estimated value of the phone was USD $1,288 (IDR 19 million). The couple immediately filed a report at Kuta Police Department.

The perpetrator was finally been arrested at his house on Tuesday afternoon Oct 27th 2020 at around 1.00pm.

“After being interrogated, the perpetrator admitted that he had done 5 robberies already. 4 of them were in South Kuta, and the other one was in Kuta area. He had been accompanied by his friend, Agung Caper as a rider during the attempts,” Yudistira concluded.

The Officer is currently investigating the location of Agung Caper. The perpetrator was detained along with the evidence at the Kuta Police Department.
