New Electric Busses in Bali Officially Launch To Help Lower Pollution On The Island

New electric busses in Bali will officially be operating as of Friday November 6th, 2020 to help lower pollution on the island. 

Bali Governor, Wayan Koster launched the Trans Metro Dewata busses earlier last month but is now taking it one step further with the new electric busses. 

Koster has been vocal on his plans in to develop public transportation in Bali and the new electric busses was a main priority of the government to offer environmentally friendly public transportation.

During a meeting with the Bali Governor at his official residence on Wednesday Nov 4th 2020, the President Director of Djakarta Public Transportation (PPD), Pande Putu Yasa said they would launch the operation test on Friday. And this program will be in line with the launching of National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) program about which will provide public transportation for tourists.

Koster said that he wants to educate the people to start using public transportation and he also claimed that Bali would be the pioneer of using electric public transportation in Indonesia.

“We need to break people’s habit to start using this bus, to improve the air quality in Bali. Apart from that, it will also reduce the traffic accidents and provide jobs to the local community to be drivers of this busses” Koster said.

Pande Putu Yasa said that they will operate 2 busses in the beginning, with the hope they can get more funding from the central government next year to launch additional busses.

The new KSPN transportation program will start with 12 busses operating 5 different routes in Bali.
