Of all of the attractions that Bali has to offer, there are a few that are truly unmissable.

One of these is the GWK Cultural Park.

Located close to Uluwatu, in the heart of the Bukit Peninsula, just minutes from resorts like Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Kutuh and Ungasan, a trip to GWK Cultural Park is a fantastic day out for all the family.

GWK Cultural Park is known to pull out all the stops over the New Year holidays, and this year is no exception.

However, you don’t have to be on the Bukit for the big countdown to enjoy the magic. GWK Cultural Park is launching a new show on the 21st of December 2024 that will dazzle tourists and locals alike.

The new show, titled ‘Bararong’ will be held at the GWK Amphitheater, and tickets cost just IDR 100,000 per person. The show will be a fusion of two of Bali’s most famous cultural performances, the fiery kecak, and the mesmerizing barong.

Speaking to reporters, the Head of the Marketing Communication Division at GWK Cultural Park, Andre Prawiradisastra, explained that the Barong theme was chosen based on a survey of tourists.

He noted, “Kecak and Barong are the main attractions for tourists. Therefore, we are working on the concept of ”Baraong” which is a combination of traditional elements and new interpretations.”

The show, which features over 30 performers and requires a crew of ten, is a musical dance performance that tells the story of the struggle of Prince Bara, the crown prince of the Bahali Windhu Kencana Kingdom, in gathering three Barong mythological figures, known as Sang Bawi (Barong Bangkal), Sang Mong (Barong Macan), and Sang Banas (Barong Ket), in order to restore peace to his kingdom.

When reporters asked about the creative process of the musical dance performance ”Baraong”, Prawiradisastra revealed that it took more than a year and called on the support of many famous artists.

One of the artists who has been involved in the creation process is Gung Giri from Saba Sari, who has been responsible for the choreography and concept of the show and much more.

The Operational Director of GWK Cultural Park, Rossie Andriani, told the media, “We have now succeeded in holding one of the new performances for the Balinese people and tourists so that they can get an alternative spectacle at night and enliven GWK Cultural Park. We also support the government’s program to improve Balinese culture on the international stage.”

Tickets to the Bararong show are charged in addition to the general entry ticket to GWK Cultural Park. For those attending only the Bararong show, tickets cost IDR 100,000, for those attending the show who have also purchased a full day ticket, seats cost IDR 50,000 per person.

The show will start on the 21st of December and will be held at 7 pm every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday moving forward.
