Qantas Group has just announced that it will close Jetstar Asia, the low-cost arm of its operation that operates out of Singapore’s Changi Airport.
While the airline closure announcement will affect hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers, tourists and business travellers, the announcement only impacts one Jetstar route to Bali.

On 11th June 2025 Qantas Group, which operates Jetstar Asia, confirmed plans to close the airline services as part of a strategic restructuring effort that will strengthen its focus in Australia and New Zealand.
The Jetstar Asia airline operates primarily out of Singapore Airport and utilizes the flight code 3K.
In a press statement, Qantas Group explained, “The closure of intra-Asia airline, Jetstar Asia, enables the Qantas Group to recycle up to $500 million in capital, supporting its historic fleet renewal program.” Adding “Only 16 intra-Asia routes will be impacted by the closure of Jetstar Asia with no changes to Jetstar Airways and Jetstar Japan services into Asia. All of Jetstar Airways international services in and out of Australia remain unchanged.”
In the statement, Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said: “Jetstar Asia has been a pioneering force in the Asian aviation market for more than 20 years, making air travel accessible to millions of customers across Southeast Asia.”
She added, “We are incredibly proud of the Jetstar Asia team and the work they have done to deliver low fares, strong operational performance, and exceptional customer service. This is a very tough day for them. Despite their best efforts, we have seen some of Jetstar Asia’s supplier costs increase by up to 200 percent, which has materially changed its cost base.”
Hudson’s statement concluded, “I want to sincerely thank and acknowledge our incredible Jetstar Asia team who should be very proud of the impact they have had on aviation in the region over the past two decades.”
The Bali-Singapore Jetstar Asia service, which operates 28 return services a week, will end in July. The airline will contact travelers who booked a ticket for the Bali-Singapore-Bali Jetstar Asia service after 31 July 2025 to offer a refund or arrange alternative travel options.
Qantas has been clear that Jetstar Asia flights will continue to operate for the next seven weeks on a schedule that will be progressively reduced ahead of the final day of operations on 31st July 2025. The airline closure only impacts flights within Asia operated in and out of Singapore.
As the airline group reiterated in its statement the closure “does not impact Jetstar Airways’ domestic and international operations in Australia and New Zealand or Jetstar Japan. Jetstar Airways will continue to fly from Australia into Asia including to all its popular destinations across Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, and South Korea.”

Jetstar Airways is one of the most in-demand low-cost airline service providers for Australian tourists traveling to Bali. The airline operates dozens of flights in and out of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurha Rai International Airport every week.
On 1 August 2025, Jetstar will launch a new direct Bali flight service between Gold Coast (OOL) and Denpasar. The service will operate three times weekly: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

From 21 October 2025, Jetstar will launch yet another new direct flight service between Australia and Bali, this time from Newcastle (NTL).
The service will depart Newcastle on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with return flights departing Bali on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This new flight service is the first international route to be operated out of Newcastle since before the pandemic.

As holidaymakers and travelers await these new flight services to be launched, Jetstar already operates dozens of flights to Bali every week. The airline operates direct services between Bali originating in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin.
