One of Bali’s most famous hotels is celebrating becoming Indonesia’s first Global Sustainable Tourism Council Certified Hotel.

The Apurva Kempinski Bali, in Nusa Dua, is one of the island’s most iconic hotels, and it is known to have hosted everyone from heads of state to major celebrities.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council has created a series of global standards for sustainable travel and tourism.

As one of the most highly respected sustainable travel certification bodies, the certification awarded to Bali’s Apurva Kempinski reiterates how this stunning hotel really is a cut above the rest.

The Apurva Kempinski has been a leader in sustainability in the luxury hotel space in Bali, pioneering environmentally friendly practices in all aspects of its operations.

The Apurva Kempinski say “Our vision is to be recognised as a leader in environmental sustainability management, and since we opened in 2019, we have implemented the ESG management system, processes and organisational structure to meet the EarthCheck Standard Certification.”

They can now add the highly acclaimed GSTC-Certified mark to the list too.

The process of becoming GSTC-certified is a rigorous one. This certification goes way further than using recycled water bottles, minimizing food waste, and only changing bed linen every second day.

In order to be granted the certification, Apurva Kempinski had to demonstrate adherence to a whole series of industry criteria. The hotel criteria and performance indicators are outlined in a fifteen-page document and have been created in alignment with the UN’s Sustainability Goals.

In a press statement, Shared General Manager Vincent Guironnet said, “At our resort, we continually strive to innovate and find new ways to drive sustainability forward in the hospitality industry. It is truly an honor for us to be the first hotel in Indonesia to receive the prestigious GSTC certification.”

He added, “This recognition reaffirms our commitment not only to providing unparalleled luxury experiences but also to leading the charge in sustainable tourism practices.”

“We remain dedicated to creating impactful change while delivering exceptional experiences to our guests and shaping a more sustainable future for generations to come.”

Apurva Kempinski is committed to ensuring that its whole operation is sustainable, both environmentally and socially.

The resort has ensured that 21.7% of all staff have been employed from local communities. By utilizing a science-based approach, the hotel has introduced a series of measures to improve waste management, boost food production, and make strides toward climate neutrality.

The hotel has installed a hydroponic rooftop garden and uses electric vehicles where possible.  They have also partnered with Eco-Tourism Bali and have planted 1,000 seeds to support the mangrove reforestation program.

The Apurva Kempinski stands proud as an icon of Nusa Dua and boasts breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.

The hotel is the epitome of beachfront hotel luxury and offers a 5-star experience to every guest in every element of their stay.

The hotel is home to a stunning collections of 475 rooms, suites and villas. Incredibly 60% of all the Apurva Kempinski’s accommodation offers guests their own private plunge pools.

Nusa Dua is one of the most in-demand vacation destinations in Bali.

Located just a short drive from Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, the resort area is home to the highest concentration of 5-star hotels on the island.

While Nusa Dua is best known as a beach vacation destination, the resort is also Bali’s leading event destination.

The resort has hosted huge international conferences and seminars like the G20 Summit in November 2022.

Later this week, we will once again welcome heads of state and their delegations as part of the 10th World Water Forum, which will see hundreds of environmental stakeholders come together to discuss the world’s relationship with the liquid of life.

Another nail in the coffin of the actual Balinese who have given up so much for the rich of the world while having their Entire culture and land appropriated for these #&*!s So tell me hotel do you have normal Balinese day or is the only way they can set foot in the place is to dress up as a culture monkeys and be slaves To the international corps that care so much about the people And the climate that they would steal every last inch of this Beautiful place and the very soul of the indigenous inhabitants.

@Danny Estrada, Whether these huge resorts are owned by Balinese or Jakarta based businessmen do not make much difference for the common people in Bali.

There are some jobs for the locals in these resorts but obviously most of the money is scurred away for benefit of the already wealthy.

A mentality of sharing the wealth is hard to find. It is a bit ironic as foreign workers (expats) even on a fairly low wage are told by officials they must hire staff as a "way of sharing their wealth".

@Benito, Well spotted. The Apurva Kempinski Bali is a monster sitting on the cliff.

Just walk over to nearby Ritz Carlton lawn and look over at Apurva Kempinski "blocking out the sun". What happen to "no building taller than a coconut tree" rule?
