Flight connectivity between Bali and Australia just got better. Indonesia AirAsia has just celebrated the launch of its new Adelaide-Denpasar flight service, which first touched down at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International on Thursday, 26th June 2025.

The inaugural Indonesia AirAsia flight service was welcomed into Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport with much fanfare. Passengers and crew aboard the flight were welcomed into the terminal building by the Australian Consul General for Indonesia, Jo Stevens, and Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Economy, Ni Made Ayu Marthini.
Marthini told reporters, “We hope that AirAsia’s Indonesia routes, both international and domestic, can encourage the growth of quality tourist visits from Australia, especially to regenerative and priority destinations such as Bali, Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Medan, Yogyakarta, and others.”
She added, “We are optimistic that this route will make a significant contribution to the target of 1.9 million Australian tourist visits this year.”
Speaking to reporters following a touchdown in Denpasar, the Acting President of Indonesia AirAsia, Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, stated that his team has projected the Adelaide–Denpasar route can serve more than 74,000 Australian tourists annually.
He explained, “Every Indonesia AirAsia flight not only brings passengers, but also the spirit of collaboration, encouraging cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and the development of two-way tourism.”
He noted that the opening of the new Adelaide-Bali route will also help position Bali Airport as a major transportation hub, competing with Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, as a layover destination for tourists and travelers connecting to the 130 destinations served by the AirAsia network.
Abdurachman shared, “We are excited to introduce Adelaide as a new destination for the millions of guests across the AirAsia network while offering South Australians seamless access to many of their favorite destinations across Asia, including Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, and Phuket via our FlyThru service.”
Abdurachman concluded, “Travellers can also take advantage of onward connections beyond Bali to explore other remarkable parts of Indonesia, such as Jakarta, the bustling capital, or Labuan Bajo, home to the iconic Komodo National Park.”
In a press interview, Brenton Cox, Managing Director of Adelaide Airport, welcomed the opening of this route with great enthusiasm.
He told reporters, “Bali is the biggest international destination and the fastest growing for us. The presence of Indonesia AirAsia provides more options for tourists, and becomes the first low-cost Asia-based airline to serve direct routes from Adelaide since 2015.”

The new flight service will depart from Adelaide four times weekly using flight code QZ 421. The flight will take off at 7.50 am, with a touchdown in Bali at 10.40 am every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The news of the new Adelaide-Bali flight from Indonesia AirAsia is not the only update coming from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport this week.
The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Wahyudi, confirmed this week that new security protocols had been introduced at the airport to help streamline the passenger experience and improve safety for both staff and travelers.

Wahyudi shared, “Starting from June 12, 2025, adjustments have been implemented to the inspection of passengers and luggage, such as checked baggage and cabin baggage, after the self-reporting process or check-in process.”
The change means that travelers do not need to have their bags X-rayed upon entry to the terminal building; instead, all checked luggage goes through a series of X-rays after baggage drop.

All flight services in and out of Bali Airport are running according to schedule with no major disruptions predicted. Over the last two weeks, there have been huge travel disruptions at Bali Airport, firstly due to the eruption of Mount Laki Laki in the Flores Islands, which impacted thousands of travellers.
On Wednesday 25th June, Qatar Airways flights out of Bali Airport were impacted by airspace closures in the Middle East, though normal order has been resumed.
