The coronavirus has dropped hotel occupancy by 60-80% in the tourist hotspots of Kuta, Legian and Nusa Dua. Chinese tourists make up a large majority of the tourists in these areas.

After the government temporarily halted flights from China, Deputy Governor of Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati explained that the hospitality business in Bali has been affected.

Hotel occupancy has plummeted because Chinese tourists are the second highest contributor to Bali’s tourism sector.

“These are areas favored by Chinese tourists, so the decline in occupancy is reaching 60-80 percent,” said Sukawati

Hotels in Ubud and Sanur have not been affected by the spread of the coronavirus. The decline in occupancy in these areas is only 2-3 percent. These areas of Bali are dominated by tourists from Australia and Europe.
