The management team at GWK Cultural Park has spoken to the media about upcoming New Year’s Eve celebrations, and it sounds like the festival will be bigger and better than ever. The team has also confirmed changes to the fireworks display setup that will ensure that the show can be enjoyed by all guests from every angle of the park.

The GWK Cultural Park Operations Director, Ch Rossie Andriani, told reporters, “One of the evaluations is moving the location of the firecracker explosions to behind the statue. Last year, it was done in front, and the smoke obscured the statue, making it invisible.” The show will feature 12,000 fireworks that will be part of a full five-minute display triggered when the clock strikes midnight.

GWK Cultural Park is also preparing for a surge in visitors over the festive season, not only on the New Year’s Eve event. The number of visitors on weekdays is typically around 3,500 people per day. During the Christmas and New Year period, this can increase to 6,000 to 8,000 people per day. GWK Cultural Park is hugely popular with both domestic and international tourists.

To help ease traffic congestion during the peak event, the park has reportedly scheduled coordination with the Bali Regional Police regarding security and traffic management in the GWK Cultural Park area. It is not only the traffic for the GWK Cultural Park event that has to be taken into consideration, but all the traffic traveling around the Bukit Peninsula, especially around the Uluwatu and Jimbaran area.

Andriani added, “We’ve handed over the traffic engineering to the Bali Regional Police. We’ve also received an invitation to a hearing to discuss the security measures that will be implemented, and the number is quite large.”

There will also be a free shuttle bus service available for event-goers, with registration for the service made via the QR-code GWK Instagram account.

With New Year’s Eve falling in the height of the rainy season, during the press conference, the GWK Cultural Team was naturally asked about contingency plans for bad weather.

The General Manager of Marketing Communication and Events at GWK Cultural Park, Andre R. Prawiradisastra, explained, “We can’t guarantee whether it will rain or not, but we’ve definitely prepared precautionary measures. Before the event, we all prayed together for a smooth event. We also had the assistance of a rain shaman as part of our efforts.”
