Tourists hoping to secure a last-minute hotel getaway in Bali may be in bad luck. Travel data from one of Bali’s least visited regions shows that Christmas hotel occupancy is currently at 90%.
Is there still hope for any room at the inn this Christmas in Bali? Here at The Bali Sun, we’d think there is, but travellers have to start taking action.

Speaking to reporters, the Head of the Buleleng Tourism Office, Gede Dody Sukma Oktiva Askara, shared an update from hotels in the region that are part of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI).
These are the starred hotels in Bali’s northwestern regency. Askara revealed that some of the hotels in the area are already booked out. He shared, “After Christmas and New Year’s, some popular hotels are already over 90 percent booked. Some have even closed because their rooms are full.”
Tourism businesses in Buleleng Regency are relieved to see a resurgence in bookings after arrival numbers dropped after the eruption of Mount Semeru in East Java, where many domestic tourists to Buleleng Regency originate from, and after the fatal traffic collision that killed five Chinese tourists last month.
Askara shared his hopes that this increase in bookings will become the new normal for Buleleng Regency in 2026 and beyond. He shared, “There’s still a huge opportunity during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Visits typically increase significantly from the end of the year to the beginning of the new year.”
Buleleng Regency is the region to watch in 2026. With Pemuteran Village having just won the UN World Tourism Organization’s Best Tourism Village in the World Award, this area of Bali is about to get a lot of attention. Buleleng Regency also features on the Ministry of Tourism’s new travel itinerary, the 3Bs Tour, which features stop-offs in North Bali, West Bali, and Banyuwangi in East Java. Here at The Bali Sun, this tour is sitting high on our 2026 Bali Bucket List!
With top hotels in Buleleng Regency in Bali already fully booked, tourists contemplating booking a super last-minute trip to Bali, and those who are taking a relaxed stance on organising plans, better get booking. Christmas and New Year are huge holidays in Indonesia.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Ditjen Hubud) of the Ministry of Transportation has just confirmed that over the festive season, more than 5 million people will travel on flights nationwide.

Speaking to reporters, Achmad Setiyo Prabowo, Secretary of the Directorate General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, explained, “We project total passenger numbers during the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year period to reach 5,050,194. This includes 3,899,176 domestic passengers and 1,151,018 international passengers.”
Bali and Jakarta look set to be the busiest international airports this festive season, as per usual. Flights from Jakarta to Singapore, Denpasar–Singapore, Jakarta–Kuala Lumpur, and Denpasar–Kuala Lumpur are the busiest international routes, with the busiest domestic route being from Jakarta to Denpasar.

With many of Bali’s busiest flight routes sold out and top hotels across the province getting booked out too, tourist must make all their accommodation bookings, transfers and transportation tickets, event ticket purchases and day trip plans as soon as possible.
Bali is seriously crowded over the festive season, and to avoid disappointment, everything must be booked in advance, including table reservations.

It’s not uncommon for fast boat services from Sanur to the Nusa Islands and the Gili Islands to sell out over the holiday period, too.
Tourists are reminded that they do not need to be in Bali to secure their tickets to events, transfer services, and even day trips.
Most tour providers offer fully online booking systems that allow tourists to make bookings and pay from anywhere in the world.

Where did you get your information from????!!???
DEC is the slowest month this year and slower then 2024 2023. There are no international tourists anywhere- ubud, sanur, kuta etc. International airport empty. Ask hotels some only 10% full others 30% full for the month. Ask resturants. Bali has has 3 consecutive month of foreign tourist decline. And this can continue into 2026. The mis management of Bali is starting to show.
