Bali’s Badung Regency may be home to the island’s most famous tourism resorts, and Gianyar Regency may be home to the arts and culture capital of the province, Ubud, but often overlooked Tabanan Regency offers tourists the best of both worlds.
Home to an incredible stretch of coastline, cultural wonders, and stunning landscapes, Tabanan Regency ticks all the vacation checklist essentials!

Bali is governed by nine regencies. While the island has its own unique cultural heritage as a province, dig beneath the surface, and tourists will discover that each regency has a series of traditions, practices, and culture all of its own. Tabanan Regency, located in the midwest of the island, is home to cultural riches galore, incredible natural landscapes, and exceptional hospitality.
Tabanan Regency is best known for its iconic, picture-postcard landmarks, including Tanah Lot Temple and the UNESCO World Heritage Jatiluwih Rice Terraces. Both landmarks are a must-visit for all culture-curious tourists visiting Bali and can be explored in a full-day trip from any of Bali’s leading coastal resort areas, including Canggu and Seminyak.
Yet it is Tabanan’s coastline that really steals the show. Tabanan’s most famous beach, Nyanyi Beach, is undergoing a surge of development and interest from tourists. It is now home to Nuanu Creative City, which is being developed into an eco-city of the future.
As the General Manager of NPG Indonesia, Evgeny Obolentsev, who is one of the team behind the project told reporters earlier this month “The current trend is towards natural and peaceful places that still have complete facilities. The Nyanyi area meets all of that.”
He added, “From the demand side, Tabanan is already very prospective. Now it’s just a matter of how to present property products that are in line with new trends: sustainable, comfortable, and integrated with nature.”
For those looking to experience the untouched beauty of Tabanan and explore the joy of Bali’s secret beaches, then now is the time.
With more international investment interest and tourist curiosity focusing on Tabanan Regency, this coming high season could be one of the last chances to explore the coast without the growing crowds.

For tourists seeking the low-key beach vibe but with the chance to find new nature-loving souls, Balian Beach is the place to go. As one of Tabanan Regency’s black sand beaches, this stretch of coastline has a different energy, which is perhaps why it is known only to the surf community in Bali.
However, it should be noted that this is far from a beginner-friendly spot. Only paddle out if you’re a confident wave catcher! While there are plenty of accommodation options in the Balian Beach area, there are no big resorts or hotel complexes. In Bali, life feels like the ‘back in the day Bali’ of old.

Soka Beach is another hidden gem in Tabanan Regency. Located close to the Ogoh Ogoh Museum, a visit to Soka Beach on a day trip gives tourists the chance to immerse themselves in both culture and nature in an authentic and crowd-free way.
This is another of Tabanan’s black sand beaches offering impressive sunset views 365 days a year. This is a real locals-only beach, so be sure to bring your water bottles, beach towels, and blankets for you; you won’t be hassled by beach traders here!

Tourists looking for a peaceful beach, free from crowds, offering ideal sunbathing conditions and the option of surfing, then look no further than Yeh Gangga Beach.
There is even a turtle conservation center open to the public. As is the case with much of the Tabanan coastline, Yeh Gangga Beach has limited public facilities, but that is very much part of its charm.

Tabanan is busy converting the coastline into tourist zones. As usual no masterplan, no new roads. Just repeating the same mistakes as Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu etc.

@Exp,
You obviously haven't been here.
Apart from Nuanu at Nyanyi there's little activity. There's strip development at Beraben and Kedungu. Over the river from Kedungu and Pankung Tibah new building has been stalled for a number of years. Similarly at Kelating and Pasut. There's little existing, new or planned development at Yeh Gangga. There's been little or no development at Soka. There's been some at Balian to the west of the village. Little or none at the village. There is little or no vacant land. There's little or no activity on the coast from Pasut to Soka.
