Bali’s allure as a travel destination may be focused on sun, sea, and sand, but travel data shows that island-lovers are adding an extra ’s’ into the mix.
That extra ’s’ stands for shopping, and holidaymakers are not holding back from filling their suitcases during their trips to Bali.

In light of new travel data showing that Bali is an increasingly popular shopping destination, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism is on a mission to make the island even more attractive to those seeking a little retail therapy on their travels.
Indonesian Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana told reporters, “We must promote this shopping tourism to neighbouring countries, to ASEAN and to other countries as well.”
Data shows that demand for shopping in Bali is being driven by Indian tourists, as well as by the younger demographics, and even more specifically, mothers.
Tourists traveling to Bali this festive season will see more shopping tourism promotions. The Ministry of Tourism is launching a campaign called “Time For A Holiday #InIndonesiaAja. Minister Wardhana explained, “We are optimistic that [this] program will further encourage domestic tourism and increase spending by international tourists.”
Over the festive season, there will also be a nationwide shopping promotion called the Indonesia Great Sale 2025, which will be launched across major shopping malls and outlets nationwide, including in Bali.
The national promotion will launch on 19th December and run until 4th January 2026, and 400 shopping centres across 24 provinces have already signed up.
Minister Wardhana explained, “We are confident that the Indonesia Great Sale 2025 can be a catalyst for strengthening the tourism ecosystem, providing broad benefits for both large and small businesses.”
Travel data shows that the average spend of a foreign tourist visiting Indonesia is USD 1,391, with 11.4% spent on souvenirs, gifts, or retail experiences.
So where can Bali-bound tourists spend their vacation budget in style? There are so many different shopping outlets in Bali to choose from.
Top shopping malls include the new ICON Bali Mall in Sanur, the family-favourite Beachwalk Shopping Center in Kuta, and the world-famous luxury brand shopping centre Mal Bali Galeria.
Tourists should not overlook the shopping malls of central Denpasar either. Here at The Bali Sun we think Denpasar is a seriously underrated hangout for tourists!
While the coastal shopping malls located in top resort areas naturally attract more international tourists, the shopping centres in Denpasar have so much to offer.
Living World Denpasar is a popular choice with local families, is always spotlessly clean, and has a great selection of Indonesian and international brands.

Trans Studio Mall is a fantastic option, come rain or shine, and is even home to Bali’s very own indoor theme park.
Finally, Denpasar’s Level 21 Mall has an expansive food court, supermarket, and a wide selection of domestic and internationally loved stores.
Of course, it is not only shopping malls where Bali’s best retail deals can be found. In fact, many international holidaymakers prefer to visit Bali’s markets rather than malls to find souvenirs, gifts, arts, and crafts.

Bali’s best markets can be found in Ubud and Seminyak, with great shopping streets also waiting to be discovered in Canggu and Uluwatu, too.
Times are changing in Bali, and gone are the days when tourists would have to shop with one eye on their increasingly bulging suitcase.

It is now easier than ever to ship shopping home. This is not only a way cheaper option than paying for excess or additional airline luggage, but it is way more convenient than lugging extra suitcases to the airport.
International shipping services like Lion Parcel are making it ever easier for Bali tourists to ship their souvenirs home, and this will be yet another growing Bali travel trend in 2026.
