Bali’s Newest Landmark Set To Encourage More Tourists To Explore Island’s North

Bali’s newest landmark, the Turyapada Tower, is poised to help encourage a whole new wave of tourists to visit the north of Bali.

The project is now entering its second phase of development, which will involve building a ring road to improve access, as well as developing a gondola-style attraction at the tower site, and more.

Bali’s Governor Wayan Koster visited the Turyapada Tower earlier this week and confirmed that IDR 10 billion has been budgeted to develop a new access ring road to the attraction and telecommunications tower.

First and foremost, the Turyapada Tower was built to address communication black zones in Tabanan Regency, Buleleng Regency, and Jembrana Regency. However, leaders are also set on ensuring that the tower can become an attraction in its own right and a beacon for North Bali tourism.

During his site visit, Governor Koster confirmed that the second phase of development has been allocated a budget of IDR 270 billion and that the project has been ordered to stay on target for completion in 2026.

He told reporters, “Astungkara can run smoothly, according to the contract completed in August 2026. So that at the end of 2026, it will have been operating as a new world-class tourist destination in Buleleng. This is an extraordinary building owned by the people of Bali.”

As part of this second phase of development at Turyapada Tower, prospective visitors can look forward to a gondola or cable car-style attraction that will offer incredible views of the Buleleng Regency landscape. Governor Koster revealed, “The gondola terminal is 1.1 kilometers away from Turyapada. The gondola will use products and technology in Korea with a larger capacity that has been widely used in developed countries.”

The new ring road access will help tourists not only explore the Turyapada Tower tourism attraction but also sites of cultural importance in the surrounding area. There will eventually be increased provision of public transport too. Tourists who arrive in the area as part of bus tours will park in the rest area next to the Landung Banner Statue in Wanagiri Village. Then, tourists who are due to visit the Turyapada Tower will be transported using a smaller electric vehicle to the gondola terminal or the Turyapada Tower parking area.

Governor Koster wants to see the development of tourism infrastructure in the Turyapada Tower area and its programs be as sustainable as possible. He asked the  Regent of Buleleng I Nyoman Sutjidra to ensure that development in the Turyapada area is regulated by the Detailed Spatial Planning Regulation (RDTR).

He emphasized that the area around Turyapada Tower should not change in terms of layout or land use allocation. He noted that tourism facilities can be built within a certain radius, but not in the form of villas or resorts.

The Turyapada Tower is the new gateway point to North Bali. Tourists can travel through the central highlands of Bedugul, including visits to Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, before stopping off at Turyapada Tower and adventuring onwards to the gems of the north, including the waterfalls of Munduk and Lovina Beach.

Governor Koster wants to see Turyapada Tower become one of the most famous landmarks in Bali. He concluded, “Managing must be professional like Dunia Fantasi in Ancol. Entrance tickets are also adjusted; local residents, especially in Buleleng, will get different prices. The goal is for this area to become a world attraction, like the Eiffel Tower or Macau Tower.”

Leaders in Indonesia have been vocal about their vision for transforming North Bali into an area of international interest, both for tourism and for business and investment.

While Governor Koster wants to see the Turyapada Tower in North Bali become as iconic as the Eiffel Tower or Macau Tower, President Prabowo Subianto wants to see the new North Bali International Airport catapult the region into the same realms as Singapore and Hong Kong in terms of tourism, business, and international interest.

As new plans have been revealed for the North Bali International Airport this week, the campaign promises of President Subianto ring a little louder.

In late 2024, he told voters in Bali, “North Bali Airport, as I have conveyed, I am committed, I want to build North Bali International Airport.” Adding “We will make Bali make the new Singapore, the new Hong Kong, where we will be the center of this region.”

270 billion on a tourist attraction , whilst abandoning waste collection. The result will be more plastic on the beaches and wide spread air pollution from plastic rubbish burning. New airport and a underground rail system sometime in the 30’s maybe ,but more traffic and no waste and rubbish collection.
