Bali’s Bukit Peninsula is one of the most exciting areas of the province for tourists. From the rugged cliff-backed beaches of Kutuh to the high waves of Uluwatu, through to the serene shores of Nusa Dua, this part of Bali is just crying out to be explored.

For many holidaymakers heading to Bali, the safe bets of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, and Canggu are the first destinations that spring to mind when planning a vacation.
Yet, head a little off the beaten path, and set about exploring the Bukit Peninsula, and first-time and even returning visitors to the island will find that there is simply so much to explore.
Uluwatu is perhaps the most famous destination on the Bukit Peninsula. In fact, many tourists unfamiliar with Bali mistakenly refer to the whole Bukit Peninsula as Uluwatu. The Bukit Peninsula is made up of six distinct areas, each offering its own unique cultural heritage and present-day vibe.
Uluwatu is renowned for its exceptional surf destinations, luxurious beach clubs, and vibrant food scene. Tourists looking to experience the most famous of Uluwatu’s hangouts should be sure to check out Single Fin, Savaya, and Padang Padang Beach. For something a little different, then hangouts like Hatch, Ulu Garden, and Teja Uluwatu are a great shout.
While there is so much to see and do on the Bukit Peninsula, the question of where to stay is a valid one. There is so much choice! From luxury 5-star escapees to affordable beachfront retreats, the Bukit Peninsula offers a stay to suit every budget and every travel style.
In Uluwatu, enviable ocean view accommodations include Blue Point Resort and Spa, Stay at Ulu, and The Ohm at Thomas Beach. Even heading inland a little, tourists have an outstanding selection of stays to choose from.
Largely undiscovered gems like the 4-star Yoga Searcher offer stays starting from USD 130 a night, and the adorable Sriyana Homestay on Jalan Pantai Padang Padang is a real home away from home.
For tourists who want to wake up to beachfront views on the Bukit Peninsula, heading over Ugasan and Kutuh is a great option, especially if an ultra-luxurious escape is on the cards.
The Bulgari Hotel Beach is considered to be one of the best hotels in all of Indonesia and boasts breathtaking views over the Indian Ocean. The edge hotel offers exceptional 5-star hospitality overlooking the clifftops of Ungasan.

It’s the Bukit’s 4-star stays that offer not only incredible views and outstanding hospitality but great value for money too. The Kirana Ungasan is a certified 4-star stay with traditional Bali-style garden huts starting at USD 30 per night.
Similarly, the Khaiyyara Jimbaran Bali offers low-season rates for as little as USD 40 per night, and guests have access to an in-house spa, a stunning pool, and easy access to the Bukit’s best beaches.

One question often asked by tourists planning a vacation is how much time is needed to explore the Bukit? How long is a piece of string?! It is true that for those opting to stay in resort areas like Canggu or Seminyak, a day trip down to the Bukit Peninsula is more than enough time to get a feel for the area.
An early morning hangout at Gunung Paying Beach, or Pandawa Beach, offers tourists the chance to take in the magnificent cliff-backed ocean views and enjoy the warmth of the southerly waters. This is followed by an afternoon and evening at one of the Bukit’s top beach clubs, which certainly makes for a memorable trip to the Jewel of Bali.

However, planning a whole vacation on the Bukit is a great option too. Not only can the Bukit serve as a launch pad to explore the rest of the island, it also has more than enough attractions, culture, and entertainment venues to keep holidaymakers enjoying their time away for weeks on end!
