Bali Wins Second Place In Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards

Share The Article

Bali has only gone and done it again! Is the Island of the Gods ever going to fall off the podium as one of the best travel destinations in the world?! Tripadvisor has released its Travelers’ Choice Awards, the Best of the Best for 2023, and Bali has come in second place.

Missing out narrowly to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Bali comes up trumps against global tourism destinations like Cancun, London, and even the City of Love, Paris. Bali comes in the first place as the travelers’ choice best destination for Asia, with New Delhi coming in a respectable second place.

Any award is a reason for celebration, but the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award is one of the most influential accolades a tourism destination can receive. As confirmed on the Tripadvisor website, the “Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best winners are decided by you: real travelers from all over, sharing real opinions and stories.”

The Best of the Best category for Travelers’ Choice is the highest award given by the platform. According to Tripadvisor, the “award takes into account the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings, and ranks the very best accommodations, destinations, beaches, attractions, restaurants, airlines, and experiences in specific categories and geographic areas, as rated and reviewed by travelers.” The destinations on the list all fall within the 1% of listings on the reviewing site.

Dozens of tourist attractions in Bali have also been honored by the Travelers’ Choice awards based on their performance in 2022. Leading attractions include Waterbom Bali, the island’s leading waterpark located in the popular beachside destination of Kuta. Cultural landmarks like the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, the Tegallalang Rice Terrace north of Ubud, and Tanah Lot Temple can now all display a Travelers’ Choice badge based on the high number of positive reviews.

In mid-2022, Ubud was voted as the sixth-best destination for solo travelers in 2022 by Forbes Magazine. Ubud is known as the artistic capital of Bali and the cultural capital too. It is regarded as one of the safest destinations on the island, with plenty of arts, cultural, health, wellness, and community events to explore.

Nusa Dua Beach was also awarded a Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Award, and tourism operators in the area are looking ahead to a successful 2023. The Director of the Indonesia Tourism Development Cooperation (ITDC), Ari Respati, has told reporters that The Nusa Dua, the luxury resort development in South Kuta, experienced significant growth in 2022.

Respati said, “We are optimistic that in 2023 it will continue to increase, especially since the government has officially revoked [Covid Restrictions]”. He continued, “Last year was a year of tourism recovery after being hit by a pandemic for two years”.

“For The Nusa Dua, various national and international scale events are one of the factors in increasing occupancy rates. With a number of event agendas that will take place throughout 2023, we believe it will help our efforts to maintain the positive trend of tourist visits to The Nusa Dua area and continue to maintain the momentum of a tourism revival.”

The Ministry for Tourism has identified a catalog of sub-sectors of the tourism economy that must be promoted in the coming years. These include medical tourism, wedding tourism, digital nomad and entrepreneurial investment, and the increase in MICE tourism. MICE is an acronym for Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibitions.

The Nusa Dua area has already hosted one of the world’s biggest political events in 2022, the G20 Summit. The event was considered a resounding success and has stood the area in a great position to attract event organizers from around the globe to use the world-class venues and hospitality facilities the area has to offer.

Travelers choice?? To vacation next to noisy construction sites, screaming dogs, ridiculously loud vehicles? Not to mention horrible roads and traffic jam everywhere. It's one of the worst vacation experiences to date, never would recommend or return to that island.

The worst of the time when queuing for hours during passport checks and declaring goods to get out of the Bali airport. So boring and waste tourist time.

Sure, best place in the Bali world. - Cancun = too much crime, London = reach’s living it, Paris = demonstrations & unrest, New Deli = Slum dog millionaire.

@Wayan Bo, Yep...and there is Bali, the island of the God's. NO crime, no garbage, no noise, no scamming visitors, very low costs, hmn...maybe I'm talking about the Bali in Africa, couldn't be the Indonesian Bali.

Who tf uses TripAdvisor these days? The Australian moms who stay in their Bali hotel resort all day and never see the utter amount of garbage all over the island, appalling infrastructure, noise pollution from everywhere, horrendous traffic and many other issues that Bali has done nothing to solve? And then rating it as a best choice for destination? Must have extremely low standards in life.

@Yuoku, couldn't agree with you more. There are nicer places in Indonesia than Bali.

Obviously whoever did the choosing has never been to the island of Palawan in the Philippines and the capital city of Puerto Princesa which also has an airport. There is night life galore, mountains, pristine beaches without garbage, cheap lodging, great food and your money goes much further. Even the island of Cebu with the international Airport on Mactan has everything to offer that Bali has, except for the garbage at much lower prices. Try the Lechon...it's the best in the world.
