Tourists visiting Bali are being urged to take warnings over dangerous conditions along the coast seriously.
As the full moon rises on the evening of Wednesday, June 11th, along with atmospheric changes, there is a high risk of dangerously high tides, strong waves, and potentially deadly undercurrents along Bali’s most iconic stretches of coastline.

Irrespective of the weather forecast in the coming days, tourists visiting Bali’s most famous coastal areas are urged to always proceed with caution. Many of Bali’s most popular and visually impressive coastal areas are also the most dangerous.
Beaches like Diamond Beach and Kelingking Beach in Nusa Penida are Bali’s picture-postcard destinations. However, the potential for high waves, strong undercurrents, and dangerously high tides remains ever-present.
Speaking to reporters the Nusa Penida Police Chief, AKBP Ida Bagus Putra Sumerta, called for tourists to be mindful and pay attention when visiting busy coastal areas, especially when clifftop viewpoints become crowded.
AKBP Sumerta told reporters “We remind tourists to always be aware of uncertain weather. It is important to prioritize safety when on the cliff or on the coast.”
Tourists visiting Nusa Penida’s most famous beaches and coastal viewpoints are likely to see more security personnel, police, and tourist support staff in these areas over the coming weeks as Bali enters the peak travel season.
AKBP Sumerta added “The situation around Kelingking Beach is monitored safely and orderly. Tourists positively welcome the presence of security forces in the field.”
He also noted that security is also being tightened at Banjar Nyuh Port in Nusa Penida as the island prepares for a greater influx of visitors. AKBP Sumerta added that the increased patrols and security presence is to support all port service users, including tourists and local residents, to ensure that the situation remains safe and operationally sound.
AKBP Sumerta shared “Banjar Nyuh Port is one of the main entrances to Nusa Penida which is crowded with tourists every day. Therefore, we increase our security to prevent potential security disturbances.”
Tourists visiting Bali’s coastal resorts over the next 3-5 days are reminded to check in with the weather and wave forecast before heading out for the day. The Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency have issued weather warnings for the coming days.
Speaking to reporters Denpasar City Weather Forecaster Wulan Wandarana shared “The reason why several areas in Bali have been hit by rain in the last few days is due to atmospheric disturbances that have caused unstable weather around the Bali area.”
Wandarana added, “During this dry season, rainfall can still potentially occur, but the coverage is not as wide as during the rainy season.” And confirmed that lightning storms and increased wind speeds are likely across Bali between the 12th – and 15th June.

High waves are predicted across the southern waters of Bali and Lombok, with heights of at least 2.5 meters expected.
Tourists traveling by fast boat or ferry are also encouraged to check in with the weather forecast and their transportation provider before traveling.

The Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency are forecasting wind speeds of up to 55km/hr over the waters surrounding Bali, or 30 knots. Wind speed and high wave warnings are in place for boat operators in the Bali-Java Crossing Route, the Bali-Lombok Crossing Route, and the Bali-Nusa Penida Islands Crossing Route.
Just last week a Bali Fast Boat preparing to depart from Nusa Lembongan Harbor sank while carrying 89 passengers. The boat was almost ready to embark on its return trip to Sanur when it was hit by a high wave which capsized the vessel, leaving tourists and crew to rapidly evacuate to safety.
