Authorities of Gianyar Prison have warned inmates to avoid attempting to bribe the officers in order to smuggle cell phones and drugs inside the prison.
The Head of Gianyar Prison, M. Bahrun stated that he would implement harder punishments for inmates who are caught attempting to bribe the prison officers during their jail time. “Prisoners who attempt to bribe our officers to smuggle illegal items such as cellphones and drugs inside this prison will be isolated in a separate cell as punishment.” M. Bahrun said during a briefing on Monday (27/9).
Bahrun explained that this implementation was initiated to prevent any incidents that might occur in the prison. “Many unpredictable incidents have happened in the prison due to illegal activities done by the inmates with their smuggled in cell phones such as controlling narcotic business from the prison and causing a fire due to illegal electrical installations like what recently happened in a prison in Tangerang, causing dozens of inmates to die from the incident.” Bahrun added.
Apart from being isolated, Bahrun will also revoke some of the inmates’ rights such as their rights for visitation, remission rights, and integration rights for any violators. He also reminds the inmates to use the free video call service that is provided in the Gianyar Prison facility instead. “Violators will be punished in accordance with the government’s regulations, and we will also frequently search our prison area to create a safer environment that is free from drugs, bribery and cellphones.” Bahrun concluded.
