Bali Police Catch Serial Thief In Canggu

A serial thief who has been targeting valuables left in cars has been captured by Bali police in Canggu.

Muhamad Nur Khalim from Jember, East Java was arrested by the Mengwi Police Department Team on Wednesday Oct 14th 2020.

The Mengwi Criminal Investigation Bureau said that the perpetrator was arrested in Pererenan Village, Canggu near the location where he commited the most recent crime.

“We began the pursuit after receiving a report filed by 38-year-old Putu Gede Putra Adnyana, who claimed he was the victim of theft on Monday Oct 12th 2020,” Head of Mengwi Police Department, AKP Putu Diah Kurniawandari said.

“I Gusti Ngurah Rai Puspadi who witnessed the theft provided valuable information to police which helped us in the pursuit,” AKP Diah said.

A motorbike with license plate (DK 4172 FBJ), 1 coach wallet, 1 backpack and a black iPhone X have been collected from the perpetrator as evidence.

“We had been following him for the last three days after collecting information from the villagers about his position.  When he attempted to commit another theft, we caught him in the act” Diah added.

After being arrested and interrogated by Police, the perpetrator admitted that he commited the crimes because he was in dept in Jember. 

He decided to target valuable left in cars to pay off his debt.

“I had to do this because I was in a massive debt back home” Khalim said to the Officer.
