The Head of Bali Tourism Agency, I Putu Astawa has urged the government to distribute Covid-19 vaccines to the Balinese artist community.

Astawa explained that the Balinese artists such as Kecak dancer, Barong dancer and other performers are also considered tourism workers that should be prioritized to receive the vaccine. “Thankfully, after communicating this with Badung Health Agency and Badung Tourism Agency, they will start distributing the vaccine to over 400 Kecak dancers from Uluwatu Temple” Astawa said on Tuesday (23/3).

He also said that there are many tourism workers who have not registered themselves as a candidate to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. “The government needs to provide another vaccination strategy like cooperating with several hospitals in order to reach more tourism workers” Astawa added. He also encouraged the government to reach them through the many tourism communities that are spread across the island.

Additionally, Astawa explains that the government needs to pay more attention to the community in order to give them hope while waiting for the border to reopen. “These people need the government’s support as many of them have been getting laid-off since the Covid-19 pandemic struck over a year ago, so they need to be taken care of during these hard times” Astawa concluded.
