Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has been visiting Bali to discuss the future of tourism in the province.
Minister Wardhana held a meeting with Bali Governor Wayan Koster and also visited the new Bali Maritime Tourism Hub.

The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is a massive multi-million-dollar redevelopment of the Benoa Harbour area in south Bali. Located within the jurisdiction of Denpasar City, the long-awaited Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is set to change the face of Bali tourism yet again.
South Bali has just celebrated the official opening of the Sanur Special Economic Zone for Health, Wellness and Medical Tourism, and soon the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub will be fully operational, offering yet more opportunities for travel, leisure, and business for domestic and international audiences.
Minister Wardhana told reporters at the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub, “The concept of developing the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is very strategic.”
She noted that the levelling up of infrastructure now means that Benoa Harbour can accommodate cruise ships that are 1,100 square meters. The new docking pier can accommodate up to three jumbo-sized cruise ships at once, hosting up to 9,000 passengers. All these developments are poised to help Bali become a world-leading cruise tourism destination in the next decade.
This is all in addition to a 57,400 square meter yacht marina which can welcome 275 luxury yachts. Supporting infrastructure such as clubhouses, restaurants, and accommodation will all be developed within the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub too.
The Strategic Director of Pelindo, the state-owned company behind the development, explained to reporters how the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub will help support economic growth in Bali and the surrounding regions.
Drajat Sulistyo explained, “The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is not just a port but a centre for marine tourism, activated, integrated with logistics, shipping and tourism infrastructure. We remain committed to making this area an international maritime hub.”
He called for more cross-sector support and collaboration to ensure that the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub reaches its full potential as quickly as possible. Demand for travel, especially cruise travel in Bali’s Benoa, is soaring right now.
During the first half of 2025, Benoa welcomes 38 cruise ships carrying more than 50,000 international tourists. In 2024, the port welcomed 59 cruise ships and 103,000 passengers. By the end of 2025, Benoa is set to be able to celebrate another record-breaking year for tourism numbers.

It is not only the Ministry of Tourism, Pelindo, and the Bali Provincial Government who are working to level up Benoa and the surrounding areas, but the Denpasar City Government too. During a campaign launch at the end of May 2025, the Head of the Denpasar Tourism Office, Ni Luh Putu Riyastiti, praised the new wave of tourists and tourism development reaching Benoa.
Riyastiti and the Denpasar Tourism Office launched a sustainable marine tourism awareness campaign to help encourage more tourists to visit areas like Benoa and Serangan, and to encourage the local community to get involved with more sustainable tourism initiatives.

Riyastiti told reporters, “Behind this potential is a big responsibility, namely maintaining marine sustainability, protecting coastal ecosystems, and ensuring that every development step is carried out in accordance with the principle of sustainability.”
She added, “This concept encourages us not only to ensure that the impact of tourism is not damaging but to be able to repair and restore the ecosystem and the quality of life of local communities.”

Benoa, specifically Tanjung Benoa, is one of the most family-friendly tourism resort areas in Bali. Tanjung Benoa is best known for its wealth of watersports activities, ranging from banana boats to parasailing, jet skis, and snorkelling.
Located just minutes from Bali Airport, Tanjung Benoa is often deemed the perfect place for a laid-back beach retreat for multigenerational vacations in Indonesia.
