Bali now has the highest number of COVID-19 red zone cities in Indonesia.
Red zone cities are areas with the highest COVID-19 transmission. According to the Indonesian government, there are 70 cities in Indonesia that are considered ‘red zone’.
Bali has increased to a total of 8 red zone cities which is now the highest number of any province in Indonesia.
The COVID-19 Handling Task Force said the 8 cities in Bali that have moved from the orange zone into the red zone as of September 6th, 2020 are:
- Jembrana
- Badung
- Gianyar
- Buleleng
- Denpasar
- Bangli
- Karangasem
- Tabanan
The people of Bali are now worried that Bali Governor Wayan Koster might react harshly to the news and force the province back into a full lockdown.
Additional lockdowns will further punish the already devastated Bali economy. Businesses such as restaurants would once again be forced to stop dine in food service and domestic tourism could be put on hold until the numbers are brought under control.
